The Three Sages and "I Don't Want to Be Audrey Tang"
I was watching that person on the screen, speaking with a smile.
A person who changes countries with digital technology, creates transparency, and has become a symbol of equality and diversity.
"...Amazing."
But another voice immediately overlapped with that thought.
"...But,something feels off."
Even if I admire them, I don't want to be them.
If I become that 'noble,' I'm no longer myself.
That person is too close to 'perfect ethics.'
It's so dazzling that my own shadow grows darker.
I think,
"{Steve Jobs is better. Making money, being applauded, becoming a legend—
that might be the shape of my dream."
It was just when I muttered that.
The iPhone's Siri activated on its own and whispered, "Is that true?"
Three sages appeared from the device.
"The best way to predict the future is to invent it—have you forgotten the meaning of that?"
"Hmm, you are only looking at my surface. I didn't want to become that kind of person."
"So you 'don't want to be Tang'? Very well. Then who will you become? You wouldn't want to die without having become 'anyone' at all!"
Alan Kay
"He (Tang) changed the system.
You say 'that's not enough.'
But is it the world you want to change? The contents of your wallet? Or the gaze of others?"
Jobs
"Alan changed education and structure, but I bet onmanipulating desire.
But remember this.
Products have souls.
No one resonates with something driven only by money."
Diogenes
"So you don't want to be an 'ethical hero' and want to be a 'king of gold'?
That's fine.
But do you have the courage tobe ashamed of it?
Accept the 'wicked me'.That is where it begins."
"Because Audrey Tang is just too righteous!"
I shouted.
"Loved by everyone, praised, and a model for the world.
But for me, that's... impossible.
I want to be pampered while still being a bit of a cheat.
I want to make money and be told 'you're amazing.'
In truth, I don't want to be 'noble,' I just want to be 'envied.'"
Jobs
"Those words are... honest. Listen, that is the starting line.
Everyone uses 'praise' as fuel at first. Butit burns out quickly.
Whether you can run beyond that point is what defines a life."
Alan Kay
"In the words 'I don't want to be Tang,' your own outline begins to emerge. That is precisely why you must return to
what you want to create. Give shape to the 'you that is not Tang.'"
Diogenes
"Look there. Finally, 'I' is starting to become 'I myself.'"
I quietly opened my notebook.
"I don't want to be Audrey Tang. But,
perhaps there is a 'story that only I can write.' " I whispered.
Facing the future,
rather than following someone else's version of correctness,
I began to draw a sketch, using the questions that carry my own 'wickedness' as a starting point.
I saw Jobs' back in the distance.
Yet, the steps I took to follow him gradually became my own.
