Adding Bass | I Tried Creating a City Pop Bassline

In my previous note, I wrote about a project where I would share the production process of programming bass onto bassless tracks provided to me using the bass instrument 'FuruBass', and since I've received some tracks, I've decided to actually try a few, and I'm here to announce that the first one is done.

  • Listen to the track first

  • Think about what kind of bass to use

  • Actually program the bass

  • Listen to the completed bassline

I wrote about wanting to share the production process in a flow like this, and since I've received some tracks, I've decided to actually try a few, and I'm here to announce that the first one is done.

Originally, I thought there might be people who have heard rumors about FuruBass but are wondering, How would it work for the songs/tracks I make? so the idea was to program onto tracks made by others rather than tracks I made myself as the FuruBass side, but once I tried it, it turned out to be quite...

・What is the thought process behind adding bass after listening to the track?
・What criteria are used to choose the bass model?
・How is the note choice for the bassline handled?

These are things that allow you to see the process of creating a bassline from a bassist/composer's perspective, so I think it's content that can be enjoyed even by those who use bass instruments other than FuruBass.

While FuruBass demos have to be somewhat conscious of making the bass sound cool, this series prioritizes the song, so I think it results in something more realistic.

This video is recommended for those who are struggling with the bass for the songs they are producing, those who want to add a fresh breeze, or those who want to spark some inspiration!

By the way, you can download the MIDI data for the bassline created in the video. ↓↓

The plan is to add more MIDI files to this FuruBass Bass MIDI Library page every time a video is updated. It would be encouraging if both FuruBass users and users of other bass instruments could check it out.

I am still looking for tracks to use in the videos. Details are below.

I've already made a few, but I discovered that there is a problem with just having bassless tracks because the root note determines the chord, so there were parts where the chords couldn't be confirmed in bassless tracks. I apologize for the careless mistake.
So, for those providing tracks, I would appreciate it if you could also provide one of the following along with the bassless track:

・Chord progression (a memo is fine)
・A track with just a temporary bassline
・A 2mix that already includes the bass (I will remove the bass using iZotope)

I can remove the bass quite cleanly with iZotope, so songs that are already finished are also fine, and it could even be a 'what kind of bass would Furukawa add?' kind of vibe.

Please note that I cannot accept every submission. For more details, please check the previous note linked above.

I plan to make one per week if possible, so I would be happy if you could check it out.

Announcement

I have created a bass sound library.
The current lineup is as follows:

・Jazz Bass version (fingerstyle, pick style & slap!)
・Precision Bass version (with mute function and sustain control)
・Active Bass version (fingerstyle, slap, 5-string range support)
・Fretless Bass version (Legato mode, portamento, vibrato function)

I am very happy that so many people have adopted it. I hope it can be of help to someone's production.
