I'm Tabi, a project leader who loves "MOTTAINAI".
Uchiko TOwan has been working on 5R activities and environmental conservations as "Ecology Town Uchiko" for about 50 years.
I moved to Uchiko Town at the end of March 2024 and am working as a local vitalization cooperator specializing in Zero Waste (reduction/minimization of waste).
In August 2024, I launched "Uchiko MOTTAINAI Project" specializing in 5Rs (see item 4) and MOTTAINAI.
The well-known word "MOTTAINAI" has been used in Japan since ancient times to refer to being eco-friendly and not wasting anything. Now it has crossed oceans and become a common word used all over the world: MOTTAINAI.
It's not just thye word that has become common, the idea behaind it has also become a common understanding around the world. That would be great!
By the way, in English it often seems that "MOTTAINAI" tranlates into "what a waste", "don't be wasteful" or "Waste not, want not".
( I would like to dig deeper into thie point in as separated article later! )
It means that "don't do 'waste (throw away, waste, squander)'" !

2. What is the Uchiko MOTTAINAI Map?
////// Operation began on December 24, 2024. Five new locations have been added! More will be added in the future. //////
~A map that lets you see at a glance the locations (locations) in Uchiko Town, Ehime Prefecture that are promoting
the environmentally friendly 5Rs (see item 4) and activities to eliminate MOTTAINAI ~
・Each of the five 5Rs (see item 4) is color-coded. Please use this as a reference.
・You can experience AR, interviews at locations, and images.
・If it is difficult to see, please enlarge the image.
・Locations will be added one after another in the future.
* As of December 24, 2024, 5 new locations have been added:
① Uchikobare (Uchiko area) : Guest house and tatami bar, cafe, alchohols, souvenirs.
② Roadside Station Fresh Park Karari (Uchiko area) : Local vegitables, friuts and pork, sake, resurants, cafe, bakery.
③ Ikaazaaki Kite Museum (Ikaazaki area) : Reuse books corner, making your own kites, recycling the festival kites, the Kite special font.
④ Odabiyori (Oda area): Irregurally night bar "Nomitomo" with local neighors, workation, pop-up sotres, kintsugi workshop space.
⑤ Food waste collection (former Uchiko area) : Food waste recycled to the compost. You can buy it at ②Roadside Station Fresh Park Karari. Abelable to touch the circular society and agriculture system in Uchiko Town.
○ Bonus: Indigo leaf cultivation / Roadside Station Karari related (Oda area) : Beautiful experience of indigo dye workshop in the future.
If you visit Uchiko Town in person, you can also enjoy special AR, interviews, event information, and trivia that you can only experience there!
3. Types of Map Bases:
Restaurants, accommodations, tourist attractions, event information(including past and future events), various stores (secondhand bookstores, food ingredients sold by weight, antiques, supermarkets, etc.), infrastructure facilities (EV cars/ bictcles, power plants, schools, hot springs, etc.), and
many other types.
*There are plenty of places we want to introduce! We will be adding more bases one after another.

6. Access to Uchiko Town
Here is some information on how to get to Uchiko Town! Uchiko is located in Kita District, in the southern part of Ehime Prefecture.
・About 40km southwest from Matsuyama City , the prefectural capital
・About 1 hour by car
・About 1 hour (maximum) by JR conventional line,
about 30 minutes by express train (express train fare applies, unreserved and reserved seats available)
