Ai's Highball
My relative, an aunt, runs a small restaurant in the downtown area. She is the daughter of my grandmother's older brother, making her my great-aunt. In other words, my mother's cousin. Her name is Ai.
It looks like a high-end establishment, but since we are relatives, I had my mother make a reservation for me to visit. I was surprised when I went. She has a shop in a prime location.
"Yasu-kun, you've grown up so much. Eat and drink as much as you want today!"
Isn't being told you've grown up something that stops after you're a student? I had almost no acquaintance with Aunt Ai. Apparently, I met her when I was small. Even so, she welcomed me with a beaming smile. When I asked, she said she was very doted on by my grandparents when she was a child.
"Your grandmother took good care of me back in the day, so I'm treating you today!" she said, serving dish after dish. As you'd expect from a shop in a prime downtown location, everything was delicious. It seems to be a place that rakugo performers frequent.
Since she is a relative on my grandmother's side, Auntie's bloodline is from Amami Oshima. I know what to do to make someone from Amami happy. You laugh and dance.
Once the alcohol kicked in and things were going well, Aunt Ai started drinking too. Is that okay for work?
Peeeeeeeeee
When I whistled with my fingers, she was delighted, saying "You're good!" and started waving her hands and dancing. She started dancing to the rhythm.
"Here, this is Ai's Highball."
Perhaps playing on her name, she served me something called an Ai's Highball even though I hadn't ordered it.
It's incredibly brown. That's not the color of a highball.
Is it half whiskey? Isn't it about half-and-half strength? I wonder if whiskey amounts are expressed in singles or doubles. Is this a triple? No, more than that. What do you call 4? Tetris?
"Come back again!"
Aunt Ai says, but I wonder how much this place costs. Should I ask a relative uncle to accompany me next time? Even if we are relatives, I feel bad about being treated every time.
Thank you for coming to read today as well. I was happy to see Auntie's smile when I told her it was delicious.
