I Intend to Speak Seriously About Love
Usually, I only talk about writing theory or things like, "Wouldn't it be nice if you wrote it this way?" It feels a bit embarrassing for a grown man to talk seriously about something like "What is love?", but I wrote a full-length article about it. I invited people on Facebook who wanted to read it and gave it only to those who commented.
It received an unexpectedly good response.
"Love" has no form, and it's hard to understand, isn't it? Even if someone says, "This is love!", I don't get it. Everyone has a different definition of love.
For some, "silence is love," while
others say, "expressing your feelings in words is love."
Both are correct. But if you demand your own version of correctness from others, love disappears from that relationship.
My grandfather was a man of love. Because he knew that "love has no form," he gave me, his grandchild, many gifts (money and things).
He would give me pocket money.
He would buy me toys.
He was a "giver" not just to me, but to his family, relatives, and friends as well. When relatives came to visit, he would have them take home a case of beer as a souvenir every single time if they were drinkers. For those who didn't drink, he gave assortments of sweets or fruit.
I once asked him about it, feeling curious.
"Grandpa, why do you give a souvenir every time someone comes over, especially since they're relatives?"
"I'm happy they went out of their way to come here. Words of gratitude aren't enough. Things are easier to understand. If they're happy with that, then that's fine, isn't it?"
When my grandfather passed away, so many people gathered that they couldn't all fit in the funeral hall. Ah, his love really did reach everyone, I thought, and that made me cry even more.
Does love really need a reason?
Thank you for coming to read today as well. The reason I write might also be close to "love."
