We want to read writing that feels human

I don't want to read polished writing.
I crave writing that is interesting.

Well, you hear that often enough. Yeah, I think so too. Beautiful writing that stirs the soul is, of course, irresistible. Aiming for that path is fine, too. You want to write it, right?

The reason articles written by AI don't strike a chord is because they aren't written by a person. They are mechanical, monotonous, and lack emotion.

So, what is the true nature of that "humanity" that seeps through the writing?

Writing quirks are one part of it, I suppose. For me, I often use "well" at the beginning of a sentence. I intentionally use the same sentence endings to create rhythm. I use "...right?" a lot, too.

I think this is where the most "humanity" comes out.

"How we see things"

There is a Lindt chocolate in front of me. That round one. It's delicious, isn't it?

Now, let's say there were about 6 of those chocolates at first. You've already eaten 5, so they're gone. Only 1 left.

Do you perceive this as "Oh, there's only one left," or do you see it as "The last one is still here! How happy!"?

If you think about it flatly, 1 is 1. It's neither more nor less than that. Just a 1. Yet, humans view it with either a negative or positive perspective. Whether there is one chocolate or six, the deliciousness doesn't change. Wanting to eat another one is, well, that's desire too. It's human.

"Let's enjoy the process, let's savor it" is the same. We act for the sake of results. The faster the result, the better. The process in between doesn't really matter. That's what time-performance is all about, right?

And yet, humans are the ones who find joy in the process, saying things like "I love the excitement of the time leading up to a trip." It might be similar to building with Lego blocks. It's good to finish quickly. The original goal is to create the finished product, but the fun is in the process of making it. The time spent building Lego while sipping shochu on the rocks is supreme (looking for someone who understands).

"If you want to eat more chocolate, why don't you just buy some?"
"Is there any meaning in that time?"
"If you have time to worry, why don't you take action?"
"You can get so absorbed in that even though it doesn't make any money."

Aiming for the goal as the top priority might be mechanical. Worrying, hesitating, being negative, or feeling down. Or, feeling joy and having fun.

Doing something incredibly wasteful and meaningless while saying this and that might just be what humanity is.

Thank you for coming to read today as well. I don't think monetization is everything.
