Tucking a Souvenir into Your Writing

If someone said to you, "I want to compile your note articles and publish them," would you be able to accept it honestly? Hello, I'm Yasu.

No, no, my writing isn't anything special. I don't write anything of much substance.

Yes! I've been waiting for this! I've been aiming for an opportunity like this. Hehe. Did you find me?

Which one would you be happy with?


I still have that "it's nothing special" feeling. Even so, I write my daily posts hoping people will enjoy them.

When posting every day, there are days when I can write a piece I've poured my heart into, and days when I think, "This just isn't working." It happens, you know.


And it's only when I think, "I've written a great article!" that I get absolutely no reaction.

There are often times when the reactions differ between the salon and note. By the way, the "Sentence Flight" piece from July 8th got a huge reaction within the salon. Well, that was also the day a major incident occurred in Japan.


Even so! I have a desire to entertain my readers and salon members. I write my heart out. I love writing, but it's not easy.


It's all about your mindset.


I try to have readers take home a "souvenir" after reading. I always keep that in mind.


A souvenir.


It could be something interesting, a trigger for thought, or since I teach writing courses, it could be straightforward writing knowledge.


I avoid negative emotions, complaints, or aggressive writing because those aren't "souvenirs." I mean, who would want to receive that... right?


Sanma Akashiya once gave advice to his daughter, IMALU, about appearing on a talk show.


"Always bring a souvenir. I don't mean a physical object. I mean an episode to talk about."


When a guest has an episode to share, it's easier for the host to expand on the conversation. Sanma, a top-tier host, understands this very well.


There is no host in writing. It's just the writer and the reader. When readers receive a souvenir from the writer, it broadens their thinking or gives them a new realization. It might even give them the courage to take action.
