Bungaku Flea Tokyo 40 Menu 🐈

I will be exhibiting at Bungaku Flea Tokyo on the upcoming Sunday, May 11th.

For those meeting me for the first time, hello, I am Chihiro Tumugi. I usually work as a filmmaker under a different name. I make documentaries about authors, corporate VPs, and short films.
Writing stories is what I love most. I apprenticed under a screenwriter, wrote scripts for late-night TV dramas, and every few years, I write my own scripts and direct independent films.
It has been two years since I started seriously focusing on novels.

While films are made with a large group of people, writing a novel is a solitary task. I felt a desire to be alone and dive deeper to write more intense stories. I am also currently experimenting with various things to figure out how to continue writing works consistently.

This is my first time exhibiting at Bungaku Flea.

I decided to participate because when I attended as a visitor for the first time last year, I enjoyed interacting in person with people I had known through note. Most importantly, it was a huge stimulus for my own creative motivation. The feeling that I should attend this event regularly and that I wanted to create something myself and exhibit it next time arose naturally.

This work

For Bungaku Flea Tokyo 40, I have created the children's story "Margo by the Sea."

Children's story "Margo by the Sea"
Book: B6 / 80P
Price: 600 yen (First edition limited price)
Text/Illustration: Chihiro Tumugi

Synopsis
The owner of a cafe built above a beautiful cove is a chubby cat named Margo. With a bold personality and a love for delicious food, Margo sets sail on his own ship with an endless curiosity for food in his heart. His destination is the Nerados Sea, a vast inland sea connecting various countries. Together with his worrywart partner, Tommy, Margo travels to taste all the delicacies and exotic foods from around the world.
It is a children's story about travel and gourmet food that both adults and children can enjoy.

Reason for writing this book

The inspiration came from the essay "A Novelist's Menu" by author Takeshi Kaiko.
He was a person very greedy for food, with a bold personality, who traveled to various countries to taste delicacies and exotic foods. Since I am also the type of person who is more greedy for food than others, it was an essay I could deeply empathize with.
Shonan, where I live, is blessed with delicious independent restaurants, and my Google Maps is always full of pins for eateries I'm curious about.

Also, when I was a student, I traveled alone to the Big Island of Hawaii for the first time. I was dragged around the island by a bold guy like Margo, and many interesting things that wouldn't happen in reality occurred, which had a major influence on my outlook on life. (This trip was also the trigger for me wanting to make films.)
The lessons learned from such real-life experiences are naturally incorporated into the story.
