Yuyake Dandan and a 70-yen Grilled Rice Ball
[243rd Rice Ball] (Yanaka Ginza) Grilled Rice Ball
The place I happened to pass by turned out to be a famous spot, and it's even featured on a poster. I feel like I got a little lucky! Has everyone had an experience like this?
Shops that sell rice balls don't really show up much in search results. That's why I try to use my own eyes and feet as much as possible to find unknown rice balls.
So, today, I'm wandering around the town again.

After walking a bit from Sendagi Station, I came out to a lively shopping street.
Yanaka Ginza.
There are various shops lined up, including pickles, Japanese sweets, liquor, general goods, and clothing. It has a somewhat Showa-era atmosphere.
At the end of the shopping street, just outside the gate, a large staircase suddenly appears.
The height of the stairs seems to reach about the second or third floor of the apartment building next to it. Let's try climbing it.
I climbed to the top and looked back.
The sky was wide, and I could see the whole street I had just walked along.
It feels great!

I took a photo for the time being.
Actually, I was surprised when I saw an advertisement that popped up on social media later.
[JR East FUN! TOKYO!]
It's the exact same place!
If I had known beforehand, I could have matched the angle a bit better~
This slope seems to be a somewhat famous spot in the area called "Yuyake Dandan" (Sunset Stairs).
What a wonderful name.
A townscape that evokes nostalgia.
You can see the feeling that the town is moving forward along with the lives of the people.
Near that Yuyake Dandan, there was a place in the shopping street with a particularly long line.
When I got closer to take a look, it seemed to be a deli.
Everything sold at this deli is quite cheap.
Croquette: 30 yen each
Fried Spanish mackerel: 50 yen each
Yakitori: 50 yen per skewer
and so on.
While looking at the many price signs posted at the storefront, I found a certain item!
Grilled rice ball for 70 yen each!
I decided on this!

Unfortunately, it seems photography is prohibited at this shop, so I decided to move a little further away to eat it so I wouldn't be in the way.
A nice and crispy grilled rice ball.
It wasn't freshly fried, but the savory aroma still came through.
Above all, this nostalgic townscape and these surprising prices. That alone makes it feel worth it.
Strolling through town leads to all sorts of discoveries.
Where should I go next?
Thank you for the meal!
