Countdown!!!
5th Place (100 yen for 2)
Nasu Kogen's "Kiwame" Rice Ball!
If you are looking for an exceptionally cheap and delicious rice ball, this is one I absolutely recommend!
Just as the name "Kiwame" (Ultimate) suggests, it is a flavor you will definitely get hooked on. It was still being sold when I visited later, so it might be a staple!
4th Place (75 yen)
Higashi-Jujo's Showa-retro tea rice ball
The phrase "has a good flavor" might have been coined for this shop.
Stylish rice balls are nice, but retro ones like this are great once in a while too!
3rd Place (70 yen)
Yanaka Ginza. The grilled rice ball that guarantees a line
I discovered a great deal on a grilled rice ball in the Yanaka Ginza shopping street in downtown Tokyo! Nostalgic and delicious—what is that flavor!!
2nd Place (50 yen... 54 yen including tax)
Agela Honpo Main Store's fried rice ball in Kawagoe
Rich and piping hot fried rice ball. You will definitely get hooked on this!
It seems there are several Agela Honpo locations, so if you find one, definitely check it out!
And now, the one that has newly taken 1st place is this!
1st Place (50 yen including tax)
Urawa's spectacular mountain of tea rice balls
[661st Rice Ball] Otako (Urawa) Tea Rice
While I was wandering around the streets of Urawa at lunchtime, I saw a crowd in front of an izakaya!
When I got closer, it looked like they were selling them at the storefront.

Otafuku, an izakaya.
There are many side dishes and oden lined up.
There are also many snacks, which is great for those who like to drink at home.

Looking up a bit from the side dishes, I saw a mountain of objects on top of a tower of beer crates!
No way!

A mountain of rice balls!!
Large rice balls are piled up high.
And they are only 50 yen including tax!
In the hundreds of rice ball shops I've visited so far, this is the cheapest!!
I have to try this!

The size is also sufficient!
First, I take a bite.
Wow.
The rice grains are firm and chewy.
The seasoning is also just right.
A subtle soy sauce flavor. You can eat it as is, or with side dishes.
And this is surprisingly only 50 yen!
I can see why they are sold in such a huge pile.
The best value rice balls that are so welcome in the Reiwa era!
If you find them around you, please let me know.
Thank you for the meal!
