Celebrating 1100 Onigiri Reports! Wajima Fugu Onigiri at the Sacred Terraced Rice Fields of Shiroyone Senmaida
[1100th Onigiri] Senmaida Pocket Park (Wajima) Fugu
<<1224th Consecutive Day!>>
The 1000-day Onigiri challenge, where I continue to write reports on note about eating onigiri from all over the country every day.
Even after reaching 1000 days, I have continued at a pace of about once every two days, and this time, believe it or not...
I have reached 1100 reports!
Clap clap clap clap
Furthermore, the rules of no duplicate onigiri, no convenience store onigiri, and no homemade onigiri are still in effect!
Since I have visited about 400 shops in total so far, I feel like I have reported on about half of the 800 onigiri shops across the country. (Of course, this includes not only specialty shops but also roadside stations and service areas.)
I would like to continue this pace and reach 1500 and 2000 reports.
(My consecutive update record on note is also at 1224 days, so I will keep that going as well.)
So, let me report on the onigiri for such a commemorative occasion.
It is from the sacred place of rice in Japan, "Shiroyone Senmaida".

On the north side of the Noto Peninsula, terraced rice fields continue toward the Sea of Japan.
This is the famous Shiroyone Senmaida.
For a terraced field enthusiast, this is a place where you can feel the original landscape of Japan that you have always wanted to visit at least once.
Since it is the season after the rice harvest, there is nothing there, but it seems to be truly beautiful during the season from spring to summer when the fields are filled with water.

Located on a hill overlooking the rice terraces is the Senmaida Pocket Park Roadside Station.
It seems you can eat local specialties and dishes made with rice from the Shiroyone Senmaida.

This is what I really wanted to buy on my trip to Noto.
Kojima Shoten's rice bran-pickled fugu ovaries!!!
I saw it featured in an ANA in-flight magazine a while ago and have been wanting to try it ever since.
Apparently, for some reason, the poison disappears when you pickle the highly toxic fugu ovaries in rice bran. The mechanism behind this is still unknown.
Got it as a souvenir!
Now, I really want to eat this Senmaida rice.

Oh!
I discovered Wajima fugu onigiri at the roadside station cafeteria!
I'm going to order it right away.

They made it to order, so it's a piping hot, freshly made onigiri!
A single grain of rice is sticking out.
It looks great, doesn't it?
With the Shiroyone Senmaida and the Sea of Japan in the background, time to dig in!
Hafu hafu (hot, hot).
Mmm.
The piping hot, fluffy fried fugu.
It goes so well with the large-grained rice grown in these terraces.
Nice!
This is such a luxurious combination!
I finished it in no time.
A reward onigiri for my 1100th report, enjoyed at the sacred site of the rice terraces!
Thank you for the meal!
Please enjoy another helping of our series on Japanese rice terrace omusubi.
