Tsuru's Arbitrary Tanka Awards (Three Poems) ☆

Hello. ^^
Thank you for your continued support. This is Tsuru.

I am one of the people who submitted a tanka and haiku for the Izayoi Cup.

As has become a tradition,
I would like to hold my own
Arbitrary Awards,
where I get to award the entries I like. ♪

Since I am a tanka poet,
I will do it for the tanka. ^^

From among the many entries,
I have chosen three poems.

Thank you, Madoka Sasara-san,
for creating the list of submissions. ☆

Once I decided to hold these arbitrary awards,
I was able to read through all the entries
smoothly.
The list of submissions was very helpful. ^^

Now, I will announce the winners.

First, here is the first poem. ☆

Ta-da! ~♪

Ayuta-san's poem.

Learn the joy of waiting for river fishing, my father said, his smile a distant autumn day

Why does this
sink into my heart so easily?

I am sure you put effort into fitting it
into the standard 5-7-5-7-7 structure,
but the way it is written feels completely natural.

Yet, the emotion is conveyed perfectly.

The final phrase (the last line), 'a distant autumn day',
is very effective.

I feel the persuasiveness in your father's words
in the upper lines (5-7-5), and it makes me sigh. ^^
He sounds like a wonderful father.

The contrast between 'smile' and 'a distant autumn day'
also quietly permeates my heart.

It was a truly wonderful poem
that I would call a classic example of family love.
m(_ _)m

Thank you, Ayuta-san.

I've recently gotten into calligraphy.
It won't be a prize or anything,
but I felt like writing this poem. ^^

My handwriting is clumsy, but I would be
happy if you could take a look.
It's a small token of my appreciation.

It got a little warped. ^^;
My apologies.

Moving on to the next one.

Ta-da ~♪

Ohayou Yonechan-san's poem.

The T-junction remains with the goodbye left unsaid in the shadow of the setting sun

In the past, it was written as 'T-junction' (Teijiro), wasn't it?
I looked it up.

I chose this one by intuition as well.
No people appear in this poem, but
it's a wonderful poem that seems to
capture the shadow of a person very well.

T-junction, what a nice choice of words.
I'll use it from now on too. ^^

A T-junction is both a fork in the road
and a dead end.
Such a place shifts into
the shadow of the setting sun.

It is a poem that feels very poetic.

I'm sorry that I'm not very good at
interpreting poems,
but I learned once again that
poetic sentiment is something that can
often be expressed well away from
the literal meaning of words.

Ohayou Yonechan-san,
thank you very much. ^^

Ugh, if only I had the vocabulary,
I would want to write so much more
about this poem. ^^

I have written out this poem
as well. ☆

It really puts me in the mood to write about my favorite poems.
I'm grateful. ^^
Thank you. m(_ _)m

Now, for the third and final poem. ♪

Ta-da! ~♪

deko-san'spoem. ☆

Loneliness slides down my throat and sits hugging its knees around my right ventricle

Loneliness.
As a means of expressing this,
by expressing it through the body,
it takes on a concrete form,
and I thought this was a poem that carried
a visceral sense of persuasion.

Where exactly is the right ventricle?
What was its function again? I looked it up.

It receives venous blood and sends it to the pulmonary artery.
That's what the internet said.
I wonder if it cleans the blood before sending it out.

And yet, it's hugging its knees.

Even if it passes the throat, it stops near the heart.
I wonder how deep that kind of loneliness is.

I felt a sense of frustration,
and as a metaphor for loneliness,
I felt a new expression and freshness.

It seemed to capture the subtle aspects of loneliness well,
and this poem was also very wonderful. ^^

I have written out deko-san's poem as well,
though I apologize for my poor handwriting. ^^

Thank you very much.
That concludes the three poems. ☆

I enjoyed writing this article for my arbitrary awards.

Thank you to everyone at the Haiku Competition. m(_ _)m

Well then, I will take my leave for now.
