Enjoying the Scent of Osmanthus at Home
The morning air has turned chilly, and I have started to feel the arrival of autumn.
This is a story from the Showa era, but when I was in elementary school, there were osmanthus trees everywhere—at school, in parks, and in the hedges of people's homes. I remember walking to and from school enveloped in their sweet fragrance every autumn.
I loved feeling the change of seasons through the scent that would drift in on the breeze, so osmanthus is one of my favorite fragrances.
I feel like I rarely notice that scent around town these days.
Perhaps it is difficult to plant them in town or in home landscaping because they grow too large and are hard to maintain, or because some people dislike the scent...
I suppose it cannot be helped.
However, nowadays we can enjoy the scent of osmanthus at home regardless of the season!
When I peeked into a shop, I found everything from shampoo, body soap, and hand cream to aroma products, perfume, bath salts, dehumidifiers, and air fresheners...
I was surprised to see so many different products lined up 😲
I immediately bought some body soap and an air freshener, and I am enjoying the scent of osmanthus in my home.
My family likes this scent too, so we are all enjoying it together 🎵

Even if we encounter it less often outside, it is nice to be able to feel the seasons in our daily lives like this.
On this slightly cooler autumn morning, I found myself feeling nostalgic for those days when I used to walk through the scent of osmanthus.
