Why does just sitting down make me feel a little happy?
Sitting on the left has become the norm.
Before I knew it, I was sitting on the left again.
At the cafe.
At home.
Even when we work side by side.
I've never gone out of my way to confirm it.
We've never even talked about who sits where.
But she is always on the right.
I think it started because our arms bumped into each other.
So, we just sort of swapped places.
That's all it was.
There's no 'Is this okay?' either.
It just happens naturally.
Sometimes, if she sits down first, I hesitate for a second.
I stop for just a moment.
Even though it's nothing major.
After that, I sit next to her as if nothing happened.
I think this is what you call a habit.
But sometimes,
there are moments when it feels like something more than that.
Falling into place without anything being decided
I can't explain why I sit in that spot.
But it's the same every time.
I'm on the right, and he's on the left.
Our arms don't bump into each other, so that's probably the reason.
But I feel like there's more to it than that.
Neither of us suggested it, but
before we knew it, that's how it was.
It's a little strange, but comforting.
Even before we take our seats, it's like we already know how to arrange ourselves.
It feels like being told, "I'm here."
Sometimes, if I try to sit on the opposite side,
I feel just a little bit uneasy.
I can't quite explain why.
It just doesn't feel right.
Repeating the same movements over and over,
I learned them without even realizing it.
"Maybe this is what it means to be together."
Suddenly, that thought crosses my mind.
But I don't say it.
Perhaps it's better left unsaid.
