“Zero Yield” I went clam digging at Chiba Port Park. [2025.5.13]

On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, I went clam digging at Chiba Port Park in Chiba Prefecture!
The weather was nice that day, and the tide was perfect.
One of my goals was to drive my Jimny, which I haven't driven much lately, so I got fired up, prepared my nets and cooler box, and headed off to Chiba!

I set off with the intention of catching "huge" round clams!!
…However, the result was an unexpected “skunked” 😅
Strictly speaking, I only got a few "very small Manila clams" and one "surf clam" 😓
The people around me weren't catching much either, so it seems the conditions weren't great. (Nobody I talked to had caught anything…)
I also forgot my hat and was about to get heatstroke, so I withdrew without even waiting for low tide 😂

However, there was an item I wanted to introduce even with a “zero yield” this time.
Here it is!

TAKAGI manual shower pump, it's more useful than I imagined!
The hard part about clam digging is actually the "cleanup afterwards," isn't it?
Your feet and hands are covered in mud, your tools are dirty, and children are covered in sand from head to toe.
That's when this "TAKAGI manual pump" comes in handy

Actually, this is the second one in our house.
We used the first one when the kids were small, and since the pump part broke a few years ago, I bought a new pump and brought it back to life.
Previously, a product like this, which came as a set with a blue plastic tank, was sold, and the capacity was about 15 liters. It is harder and sturdier than a regular water tank.
(I'm not sure if the same tank is in the current lineup)

The mechanism for the shower to come out is to "compress air to push out water." Therefore, I feel that the tank itself is made of thick resin so that it can withstand air pressure.
I remember using it in the summer by placing it on the roof of the car as a “warm water shower”☀️
It's simple to use, yet practical!
It is very easy to use. Just attach the pump to a plastic tank and press the top part repeatedly to pressurize it. (I feel that having one person keep pressing it is the best way to use it 😅). Although the water pressure of the shower is not that strong, there is enough water volume to wash off two children after clam digging.
Moreover, this set is useful not only for clam digging but also in the following situations.
✅ Hand washing at camps and BBQs
✅ Cleaning fishing gear and boots
✅ Emergency portable shower (water only is fine)
✅ Also as a preparation for water outages during disasters!
✅ “Warm water shower” is also possible in the summer
I usually keep it in the storage shed as disaster prevention gear, but it is a reliable item that performs well in the outdoors like this time.
Recommended for water play!

It is also convenient to pack a small “duckboard” for when you are changing clothes 🚿
Summary
The results of the clam digging were disappointing, but this pump was an item I was glad I brought along. Since it is manual, it does not require power and is perfect for quick water washing.
I really recommend it to those who go clam digging or camping, and those who are considering disaster prevention supplies!
I think it is better to use a sturdy “plastic tank” to pair it with 😊
Thank you for reading until the end.
