Comparing Chocolate Pretzels from 7-Eleven and FamilyMart
I found this while waiting in line at the 7-Eleven register and bought it immediately chocolate pretzel

I'm a huge chocolate lover, but when it comes to snacks, pretzels are my absolute favorite.
So, a "chocolate pretzel" is exactly the kind of snack that hits the spot for me.
"Oh, did they release this new this year? 😄"
Thinking that, I went to FamilyMart the next day and saw another "chocolate pretzel" in my line of sight...!!

Wait, is this a trend? lol
And it's a bean-to-bar Ecuador (Arriba cacao) pretzel?
A product that hits my sweet spot three times over has been created 😁
So, I opened them both at the same time to compare them!
7-Eleven's Chocolate Pretzel

Product Name Pretzel Chocolat Bitter
Price 149 yen
Capacity 40g
Quantity 14 pieces
Starting with 7-Eleven! Yeah, this is exactly the chocolate pretzel I imagined 🥨
You can really enjoy the good balance between the sweetness of the chocolate and the saltiness of the pretzel.

The chocolate is sweet, but as the label says "bitter," it's not too sweet and offers just the right amount of "sweet and salty" flavor.
It has the fragrance of the pretzel and a crunchy texture, making it as delicious as I expected.
It's truly a snack you can't stop eating once you start...!
FamilyMart's Chocolate Pretzels

Product Name Ecuador Special Chocolate Pretzel
Price: 368 yen
Weight: 49g
Quantity: 10 pieces
Next, I'll try the FamilyMart one! Oh... this has a completely different texture and flavor from the 7-Eleven one✨
The floral aroma, characteristic of Ecuadorian cacao, spreads the moment you open the package💐
The balance between chocolate and pretzel is definitely skewed toward more chocolate
Perhaps due to the generous amount of chocolate, the pretzel has a crunchy, hearty texture rather than a light snap

The pretzel's nuttiness is overshadowed by the chocolate, and the saltiness is also quite subtle
If you're expecting a 'sweet and salty' treat, you might be disappointed, but instead, you can slowly savor the rich flavors of cacao and wheat
However, if you just want to enjoy the flavor of the chocolate, the presence of the pretzel might be a bit of a distraction💦
Comparing FamilyMart and 7-Eleven
When comparing the chocolate pretzels from 7-Eleven and FamilyMart...

The size is larger at FamilyMart. Each piece from FamilyMart is 4.9g, while the 7-Eleven one is about 2.9g, so it's roughly 1.7 times the size.

Looking at the cross-section, it's clear that FamilyMart (left) has more chocolate and a thinner pretzel!
7-Eleven (right) feels like it has a more substantial pretzel🥨
Looking at the ingredients...

FamilyMart has the highest percentage of chocolate, while 7-Eleven has the highest percentage of wheat flour, so these two definitely have very different finishes.
A subtly nice feature is that the FamilyMart package has a resealable zipper. Especially since I opened both at the same time this time, it was helpful to be able to store them, haha!
My personal thoughts on convenience store chocolate pretzels

Personally, if I were to buy them again, I'd go with 7-Eleven!
I usually just eat chocolate bars 🍫, so if I'm choosing a snack for a change of pace, I'd pick 7-Eleven's chocolate pretzels for their salty flavor and good texture!
If you want to enjoy a snack called a "chocolate pretzel," go with 7-Eleven, but if you want delicious chocolate with a bit of a snack-like feel, I'd go with FamilyMart 😄
Well, honestly, both are delicious! Especially since I'm a chocolate lover 😋
