VOCOlinc Air Tag Card Type (0.16cm thick) Hands-on Review - An ultra-thin, wireless charging-compatible smart tag that works with the Apple Find My network

I have put the "VOCOlinc Air Tag Card Type," an ultra-thin smart tag that is the size of a credit card and supports wireless charging, to the test. Its appeal lies in its thinness, which doesn't get in the way even when placed in a wallet, and the fact that it is a rechargeable device that can be used repeatedly.
Why I chose this product
Actually, the reason I bought this smart tag was for the safety and peace of mind of my family.
For keeping an eye on my elderly parents I wanted my elderly father and mother to carry it so I could check their whereabouts when they go out.
Conventional GPS terminals had problems with complex operation and the tendency to forget to charge them.
However, with this card type, you just put it in your wallet, and no special operation is required.
Triggered by my wife's wallet loss incident Also, I had an experience where it was very difficult to find my wife's wallet after she lost it previously.
Since it took a lot of time and effort to reissue cards and cash, I strongly felt, "If only there had been a smart tag in the wallet..."
Based on this real-life experience, I was looking for a thin smart tag that could be put into the wallets of all my family members, and I came across the VOCOlinc Air Tag Card Type.

Unboxing and First Impressions
When you open the box, you will find the business card-sized unit and a USB-C to Qi pack-type charger.
The unit has a matte black finish, a design that doesn't stand out even when inserted into a wallet.
The LED indicator is designed to be subtle, glowing faintly only when lit.
The 1.6mm thickness of the card is thinner than a modified Apple card case, and it fits without any issues in a standard bi-fold wallet.
When I actually held it in my hand, I was impressed by how it could be handled with the same feeling as a credit card.
Setup Method

The setup was extremely easy.
Open the Find My app on your iPhone and select 'Add Other Item'
Press and hold the button on the device for 3 seconds to switch to pairing mode
Follow the on-screen instructions to decide on a name and emoji
That's it. Registration took about a minute even for the first time, and as an MFi-certified product, there were absolutely no errors.
Actual Usage Experience

I tried using it in various scenarios.
In particular, I felt it was more effective than expected for my initial goals of keeping an eye on family members and preventing wallet loss.
Test Scene 1: Checking on elderly parents when they go out When my father went for a walk, I was able to confirm he was safely at the local park using the Find My app.
Being able to discreetly check on his safety without calling him and causing worry is a major benefit.
Test Scene 2: Preventing my wife from leaving her wallet behind When my wife left her wallet in her work locker, I received a 'Left Behind' notification immediately upon arriving at the company parking lot.
Having experienced a loss incident before, I found this notification feature very reassuring.
Test Scene 3: Calling feature When I called the tag inside a bag, it emitted a beep sound of just under 90dB, making it easy to find even amidst the ambient noise of a cafe.
Test Scene 4: Find My network Even outside Bluetooth range (about 80m away), the location was updated after 10 minutes via the Find My network.
Since I was outdoors, I assume the location was captured via other iPhone users' devices.
Test Scene 5: Waterproof performance My wallet got wet from my pocket during rain, but there were no issues with operation.
The IP67 waterproof rating provides peace of mind.
What I liked

1. Convenience of wireless charging
AirTag requires replacing the CR2032 battery, and the Chipolo CARD Spot is a disposable type that cannot have its battery replaced.
However, this product can be recharged repeatedly, making it sustainable and economical.
2. Card-sized thinness
It slides easily into a standard card slot and is more space-efficient than an AirTag card holder. Not having to increase the thickness of your wallet is a major benefit.
3. Loud Alarm & LED
The volume is loud enough to be heard even from the bottom of a bag, and the LED flashes at night, providing good visibility.
4. IP67 & Robust Construction
It is durable enough to be used without worry during business trips or outdoor activities.
Points of Concern
No Precision Finding Because it lacks a UWB chip, the AirTag's "arrow guide" feature cannot be used. Ultimately, you will have to rely on sound to find it.
Qi Charging Alignment Since the charging coil is positioned toward the center, it takes a little practice to align it on a MagSafe pad.
Sound Quality The sound is high-pitched and shrill, which is fine in quiet places, but it may be difficult to hear in noisy environments like train station platforms.
Durability Needs Verification I had no issues during a month of testing, but some users overseas have reported "connection loss after 5 weeks." It is possible this could be improved with a firmware update, but long-term use needs to be verified.
Overall Rating: ★★★★☆ 4.3/5
Recommended for the following people
Those who want to protect their wallet or passport with minimal added thickness
Those who do not want to manage button battery inventory
Those who prioritize cost-performance over the genuine Apple AirTag
Those who want to ensure the safety of elderly family members when they go out
Those who have lost their wallet in the past and want to prevent it from happening again
Those who want to introduce smart tags for the whole family
For users who are willing to give up the AirTag's "Precision Finding" feature in exchange for thinness and a rechargeable battery, I feel this is currently the most well-balanced card-type tracker available.
I highly recommend this product, especially to those like me who are considering it for practical purposes such as checking on family safety and preventing wallet loss. The ability to provide subtle monitoring without burdening elderly parents is more valuable than I imagined. Personally, I think this product has a level of perfection that makes it the definitive tag for wallets.
In particular, the ability to reuse it via wireless charging and its credit card-like thinness are major attractions not found in other products.
For modern people who always carry a wallet, this can be called the most practical smart tag available.
