#いまあなたに伝えたいこと(18) 小さな火傷とアロエ — 山で見つけたアロエが家族にくれた学びと笑い (英語版) A Small Burn and Aloe — The Learning and Laughter Aloe Brought to Our Family from the Mountain
Before our eldest child started kindergarten, we went camping as a family. He was about four or five years old. He had been playing with the “spinning mouse” fireworks with my husband and seemed to be enjoying it. My husband had said, “Do not touch,” but when he returned, he noticed the uneasy expression on our son’s face and saw that his hand had been burned.
Since we were camping, we did not have any medicine on hand. My husband went to find an aloe plant somewhere in the mountains, thinking it might be growing there, and brought it back. He applied the aloe leaf to our son’s hand and secured it somehow. Aloe is said to have properties that reduce skin inflammation and promote healing, as well as moisturizing and antibacterial effects. By the next day, the redness had faded, and the burn had healed.
This experience reminded us of the differences in our children’s personalities. Our eldest acts on curiosity even when warned, while the younger one tends to observe quietly. Children have different temperaments and ways of responding.
Looking back, on that hot summer day, the aloe we found in the mountains brought with it a small lesson and laughter for our family.
