New Zealand Trip, Part 4 – A Trip to Visit My Eldest Son’s Family

My husband and I are leaving Japan today and will travel tomorrow to visit our eldest son’s family. The cost of airfare and insurance is considerable. However, the purpose is not sightseeing. The real value of this trip lies in seeing and experiencing the growth of our grandchildren up close.

My husband says, “We don’t know how long we will be able to keep doing this.” The eldest son’s family also comes to visit once a year. We want to cherish these limited opportunities. We plan to continue making these trips as long as possible.

During our stay, we will be staying in a separate building at our eldest son’s home. We intend to spend our time healthily and with smiles. Our son called my husband to inform us that he has an emergency dental surgery tomorrow, so our pickup will be about 30 minutes later than planned. Although there may be some changes to the schedule, we plan to spend our time calmly and pleasantly.

According to my husband, this is not a “journey” but a “trip.” The purpose and accommodations are clear, and the trip is well planned. If we happen to stop by sightseeing spots or the beach along the way, we will enjoy them as part of the trip.

The smiles of our grandchildren, time spent with family, and the peaceful moments away from daily life—these are the precious memories this trip gives us.
