Title: What My Husband's Visit Reminded Me Ofー June /13 (Saturday) 2026 / R8
For the past few days, my husband has been visiting Matsuyama. It feels as though he just arrived, yet it is already time for him to leave.
Spending time together—sharing meals, talking, and visiting Matsuyama Castle—has reminded me of something I have known for a long time: we are very different people.
Our interests are different. The things we want to talk about are different. Our opinions often differ as well.
When we were younger, these differences led to many arguments. Sometimes our children were caught in the middle. Looking back, I think we were never particularly compatible in the usual sense. Our values, perspectives, and ways of thinking were quite different from the beginning.
We grew up in different environments and in different places. Yet somehow, we married, built a family, raised children, and continued living together while balancing work and family responsibilities.
Now, when I look back, I sometimes wonder what it all meant. What was the meaning of two such different people sharing a life together?
One thing I know for certain is that we were never a couple who completely understood each other. Even so, we spent many years walking through life side by side.
These days, we rarely argue.
It is not because we suddenly understand each other perfectly. Rather, I think we have simply become tired of fighting. Over the years, we learned that we cannot change the other person, and perhaps we do not need to.
Because of that, we have learned to live more quietly and peacefully.
We no longer expect complete agreement. Instead, we accept that each of us has our own interests, thoughts, and ways of spending time.
This visit has given me an opportunity to reflect on our long marriage.
There were difficult years as well as good ones. It was not always easy. Yet somehow, we made it this far.
My husband's stay in Matsuyama has been brief, but it has reminded me of the long journey we have shared and the life we built together, despite all of our differences.
