[Timee] Working for about 4 hours is just right.
Hello, this is Tommy.
The other day, for the first time in about half a year, I used "Timee" to work a part-time job in customer service at a deli.
The shift was only for 4 hours in the afternoon.
I usually work from home doing writing and music activities, so it had been quite a while since I worked a job that involved direct interaction with people.
Honestly, I was a little nervous at first...
But once I put on an apron and stood at the storefront, I felt like I was a member of this shop (maybe that's an exaggeration).
Saying "Welcome" makes me feel energized
In customer service, you definitely have to say things like "Welcome" and "Thank you."
When you are energetic, customers naturally smile back at you.
In those moments, I felt once again that, "Ah, jobs that involve interacting with people are really great."
When the customers settled down a bit, there were a few who engaged in casual small talk with me.
Some even said things like, "Are you new? Good luck."
When the people you work with are kind, you hardly feel the difficulty
The shop staff were also very kind.
The manager? The person who seemed to be in charge was also very nice.
Honestly, it was quite a busy shop, but they taught me carefully, so I was able to work happily.
When the people you work with are kind, the difficulty of the job even feels pleasant.
The comfort that comes from short-term labor
In customer service, working full-time every day can often be difficult.
Since it's basically standing work, 8 hours is extremely tiring.
For a short shift of about 4 hours like this time, it was really fun because I felt a good level of fatigue and a sense of accomplishment.
I moved enough to feel like 'I worked today,' but not so much that I was exhausted and couldn't do anything else.
On the way home, I bought a frankfurter at a convenience store and while eating it, I thought, 'The customers today were all such nice people, it was fun.'
I love my writing and music work, of course, but there is a different kind of charm to working where 'you can see people's smiles right in front of you.'
Working for 4 to 6 hours might give you some peace of mind.
I was nervous because it had been a while since I worked in customer service, but being thanked and relied upon makes me very happy.
That might be true for any job, but I feel it exists very clearly in customer service.
There was a time when I thought 'working = painful,' but after taking a little distance and coming back, my perspective has changed.
If this were a daily, repetitive, long-hour job, I would hate it, but for a lazy person like me, short-term labor of 4 to 6 hours is just right.
I want to continue enjoying various ways of working.
Part-time jobs on Timee are first-come, first-served, but if you find a job that looks fun and apply, your world will expand.
I've done register work and sales, and next I want to try working in the dining hall.
I also did bento box assembly.
I recommend it because if you value the experience rather than just earning money, you can enjoy working!
