I Can't Remember!
Looking back, I have frequently forgotten various things since I was young.
However, I don't think I've ever been in trouble because of that.
There is no particular reason to hold onto all my memories at all times, and if that memory is truly necessary, I can just look it up.
For memories I can't recall, I don't give up; I intentionally leave them be.
Then, without fail, tomorrow or the day after, while I'm doing something completely unrelated like taking a walk or cleaning, it suddenly pops up from the depths of my memory!
At such times, I triumphantly declare, "Aha! I remembered! See, look at that!"
There is nothing more refreshing than the feeling at that moment.
There are two things I am particularly prone to forgetting.
One is the names of the Great Lakes in North America.
The other is the names of the Baltic states.
Shall I try listing the names of the American Great Lakes here, just as they come to mind...?
Huron, Erie, Michigan, Ontario...
Uh, one more! I'm pretty sure this one, just like Michigan, is the same as the name of some state in North America, right?! Regrettable! That's all for today!
Even this is a good performance for today; usually, I only remember about three and forget the rest.
Since four came out this time, it's quite "good"!
The last one should pop up again sometime tomorrow.
Now, let's try the Baltic states!
Uh...! 1. Was it Slovenia?! As expected, it's pretty suspicious from the start... 2. Lithuania, that's right, it must be that!
And! Uh... 3. Estonia! Maybe? Hahahaha!!
Please don't believe me! It's definitely wrong...
It's like this.
I'm probably confident about Lithuania. I have a certain level of confidence that Slovenia was also something like that, but what about Estonia?
Usually, what comes to mind is even less than this, and from the start,
"Huh? What was it again!?"
It's often the case that the number of things I can remember is "zero."
But I don't look these things up; I leave them be.
That's because they aren't necessary right now.
If I leave them like this, they will suddenly come floating up one after another tomorrow or the day after, which is funny and interesting.
Right now, I am particularly conscious of repeating the process of remembering and forgetting these two things: the Great Lakes and the Baltic states.
Ever since I was in my 20s, I have been forgetting things as soon as I learned them.
It's certainly not something that just started now.
That's why I don't pay any particular attention to this forgetfulness.
I feel like I might have been even more forgetful back in those younger days than I am now.
But I think that's fine.
