Ancestors [Fairy Tale]
The little white cat was sad.
"I am all alone!
No one helps me,
no one protects me."
Just then, Kuro the crow flew down and said,
"That's not true. I can see them."
"See what?"
the little white cat asked.
"The ancestors who are protecting you,"
Kuro said.
"Ancestors!?"
The little white cat was surprised.
"There are two behind you."
"A cat with polka-dot patterns and a mustache,
and a cat with a patch on its left ear and glasses."
Kuro said. The little white cat had an idea who they were.
"Oh, those are my grandfather and grandmother!"
"There are four behind them."
"A cat with patches on the right and left of its face and a mustache,
a cat with fluffy cheeks and long eyelashes,
a cat with square glasses and patches on its left ear and the right side of its face,
and a cat with stripes and wide-open eyes."
Kuro said. The little white cat thought for a moment and said,
"Those must be my great-grandfather and great-grandmother!"
"There are eight behind them," Kuro said, so the little white cat replied,
"Those must be my great-great-grandfather and great-great-grandmother. I've never seen them, but..."
"There are sixteen behind them."
"Those must be my great-great-great-grandfather and great-great-great-grandmother. I've never seen or met them, but..."
Then Kuro looked down from high above and said,
"There are thirty-two behind them, and sixty-four behind those. I can't see clearly past that... but they are climbing higher and higher. They are glowing gold.
They are saying, 'Do your best,' 'Don't give up,' 'We are always watching over you,' and 'It's going to be okay.'"
The little white cat was happy to know that so many ancestors were cheering for him.
"I see, I'm not all alone, am I?"
the little white cat said.
"That's right, you have a huge cheering squad behind you.
Always, no matter what!" Kuro said.
The little white cat felt his back grow warm and cozy.
