How Being Conscious of the "Last" Changes Things
Hello. This is Miyabi with one lesson a day.
Today's lesson is this.
[Living mindfully with "the last of this year"]
◆ The magic of "the last"
It is finally October.
The season where we can gradually see the end of the year is upon us.
For lunch today, I casually boiled some somen noodles that were left in the kitchen.
The moment I suddenly thought, "This is the last somen of the year,"
a different feeling sprouted within me.
Since it was a special occasion, I prepared proper condiments,
prepared a side dish, and tried to make it a little bit special.
Just by thinking it was "the last,"
a mundane meal became a precious moment to reflect on this summer.
◆ Being conscious of the "end" makes the "present" mindful
Come to think of it, we spend our days as if they are "things that will continue."
But the moment we are conscious that "this might be the last time,"
the ordinary things we take for granted suddenly become filled with melancholy.
Whether it is in human relationships, work, or daily habits,
by imagining the "end,"
perhaps we can finally face the "present" with mindfulness.
◆ Today's lesson
"When you think it is the last time, the [present] naturally becomes mindful."
I will surely eat somen again next year.
But today is the last time for "this year's somen."
I believe that savoring each and every instance while feeling that sense of closure
is what makes daily life a little richer.
◆ Summary
Even events that pass by aimlessly in our daily lives
become special moments just by thinking, "This might be the last of this year."
Being conscious of the end leads to living this very moment mindfully.
Today's lesson is about that "power of closure."
How about you? Have you done anything that was the last of this year?
Please let me know in the comments.
