Children's Ally 021: Itaru's Lizard

One day, second-grader Itaru returned to the after-school program with more energy than usual.
“


I caught a lizard!!! 😄”Huh!? I was surprised that he brought such a souvenir, and when I asked, “Wait, what did you put it in?”

Itaru said proudly,
“I didn't have an insect cage, so I put it in this. 👍”

What he showed me was—

His school communication bag, of all things.

I mean, do communication bags and lizards really coexist!? 🤣

I could see it moving around inside the bag.
It felt... a little bit sorry for the lizard, but
Itaru was perfectly happy. ✨

Then, it was time for pickup.

I told his mother, just in case.

“Itaru-kun brought a lizard home... inside his communication bag... 💦”

Instead of being surprised, his mother said this very naturally.


“Oh, that's too cramped. Put it in here.”Saying that, she opened her

lunch box and gently scooped the lizard up.
She transferred it into the lunch box (or rather, a Tupperware container).Itaru was satisfied, too.

The lizard was probably comfortable (?), too.

I was just left feeling so warmed by the kindness of that moment. ☺️
She didn't get angry,

she didn't deny him,


“improvising on the spot and accepting the whole situation”


I thought that was a wonderful way to handle it.—His mother, too, was a truly wonderful “Children's Ally.” ✨
