I passed the 30th Career Consultant Examination

I passed the Career Consultant Examination.

The biggest reason I decided to get this qualification is that I started to feel that I wanted to provide support for children that looks
not just at 'the time they are in school,' but also beyond that.
I began to feel this way.

As a school counselor, while interacting with children, parents, and teachers at elementary and junior high schools, I have strongly felt the need for support that continues through high school, university, and into future career paths and employment.

Support that does not end within the school. To that end, I wanted to properly relearn the perspective of career development.

Another major factor was that I began to feel that
a consultant's perspective is necessary for approaching the school community.

Beyond supporting individuals, I considered how I could engage with the 'organization' of the school itself and how I could influence relationships.

I feel that this perspective is indispensable for my future practice.

I took this exam through the practical experience route. *The career consultant exam has a route for those with 3 or more years of practical experience and a route for those who take and complete a training course.

Having studied psychology and having past experience working in human resources, I was able to pass on my first attempt after about three months of study.

In my work as a school counselor, I am required to respond flexibly in various situations, such as interviews with parents present or conversations in the infirmary. Since I was accustomed to role-playing in supervision, I did not feel excessive nervousness during the actual exam.

What I felt strongly through the exam is that
what is required is not 'technique' but 'ethics.'

More than superficial skills like whether you can speak well or summarize things neatly,

  • am I truly respecting the consultee's self-determination?

  • am I supporting them without leading or controlling them?

I felt that this was what the exam was testing.

I have realized once again that career support is not a job of 'giving the right answer,' but a job of supporting a person's ability to choose their own life.

Just because I have obtained this qualification does not mean that anything will change dramatically starting tomorrow.

However, I feel that I have built a foundation to
continue the way of interacting that I have valued in the field with peace of mind over a longer time axis. That is the feeling I have.

I will continue to provide support in the necessary places and in the necessary ways, while continuing to learn.
