[Weverse] Learning Korean with BTS [Learn! KOREAN]
[Update: 2025/10/19]Cake channel had videos, so I'm adding this update
K-POP is the world of the Korean language (obviously)
With the full group reunion approaching, the ARMY community is trembling with joy and anticipation. In the shadows of that, I suspect many people are regretting, 'What was I doing during the military hiatus...!' Here are the three major regrets I can think of.
I didn't make progress on watching content.
I didn't make progress on watching content.
I didn't make progress on dieting or saving money.
I didn't make progress on learning Korean either.
I haven't rewatched Bon Voyage or In the SOOP yet.
I still can't speak Korean.
As for me, I excluded Korean language learning from the start, so I have no regrets! Don't be so sure. Well, I did try the learning app Duolingo a bit, lol.
Me and Bangtan language, or rather, Korean.
Me and Bangtan language, or rather, Korean.
I had a period where I read and wrote it for work, but I forgot it easily afterward, so my Korean vocabulary is almost entirely made up of Bangtan. For example, with 'I hate this night (이 밤이 싫어)!', I understood it as 'this night is hated' by combining Jin's solo song 'Tonight (이 밤)' and Jimin's 'I hate it (싫어요)'. My learning base is Bangtan.
For me, Korean is close to 'the language Bangtan uses = Bangtan language', and even when I watch TXT videos, I find myself thinking things like 'they're speaking the same language as Bangtan.' Oh boy.
For me, Korean is close to 'the language Bangtan uses = Bangtan language', and even when I watch TXT videos, I find myself thinking things like 'they're speaking the same language as Bangtan.' Oh boy.
I'm scared of myself for having thoughts like
'Wow, they're speaking the same language as BTS 💜'
when seeing Korean guests.
Since I first encountered the K-POP scene through BTS and have only watched them since, I've developed a sense that 'Korean = Bangtan language'.
I thought that Weverse's language learning content, 'Learn! KOREAN', might be perfect for someone like me. I had left it alone while I was busy watching Bangtan, but it's interesting when you look at it again. Plus, you can watch quite a lot of it for free. What a deal!
So, I'd like to introduce it this time.
Darkest place is under the candlestick: Educational videos sleeping on Weverse
'Learn! KOREAN' is a study series that was released by 'HYBE EDU', and there are BTS versions, Tiny TAN versions, and others. I've categorized them myself for now.
There are 73 videos on Weverse, and since they seem to be original content, I don't see them on YouTube. It seems there is similar content for SEVENTEEN and BLACKPINK as well.
By the way, 'HYBE EDU' was integrated into Cake Inc. on June 1, 2022, and became 'Cake X'.
The ones on Weverse seem to be from the EDU era based on their release dates. It doesn't look like any videos have been uploaded since it became Cake. Are they pushing the app?
[Update: 2025/10/19] There were videos on the Cake channel!
Let's try learning Korean with BTS!
This time, I will introduce all 30 episodes of the BTS edition from the "Learn! KOREAN" videos on Weverse. All of them use BTS videos as examples.
As for the difficulty level, I think it is aimed at people who can read Hangul to some extent.
If you know "Saranghaeyo" and "Annyeong," and can distinguish the members' names in Hangul or have tried writing them, then gwaenchanayo (it's okay)!
I'm new to Korean, isn't it difficult?
Korean is written in characters called Hangul. There are songs to help you memorize them easily, similar to the English "ABC Song".
For those who cannot read Hangul, I think it is best to first grasp the combinations of vowels and consonants to make the subtitles and explanations easier to understand.
If you want to learn this part, you might want to watch the Tiny TAN version of the videos first.
(Warning: too cute) Hangul Vowel Gymnastics with TinyTAN - Learn! KOREAN with TinyTAN
EP.1 "RM's Orchard" Learning Simple Vowels - Learn! KOREAN with TinyTAN
EP.2 "SUGA's Maze Escape" Learning Consonants 1 - Learn! KOREAN with TinyTAN
EP.3 "JIN's Rhythm Game" Learning Diphthongs - Learn! KOREAN with TinyTAN
EP.4 "JUNG KOOK's Exercise Time" Learning Consonants 2 - Learn! KOREAN with TinyTAN
EP.5 "V's Waste Sorting" Learning Batchim - Learn! KOREAN with TinyTAN
EP.6 "J-HOPE's Farm" Learning Double Batchim - Learn! KOREAN with TinyTAN
EP.7 "JIMIN's Cake Making" Learning Liaison - Learn! KOREAN with TinyTAN
You can now read sentences written by BTS. - Learn! KOREAN with TinyTAN
By the way, the parts that make up Hangul each have names, and the consonant for the first letter "Ka" in "Ka-Na-Da-Ra" is "ㄱ (giyeok)".
The poem Namjoon wrote a long time ago was a play on words between this "giyeok" and "기억 (gi-eok / memory)." It is one of the teaching materials, so please take a look 💜
☝️ October 9th is Hangul Day, which commemorates the birth of "Hangul."
Do you remember the poem written by the BTS members that appeared in episode 56 of "Run BTS!"?
In it, RM wrote a moving poem filled with humorous wordplay, affection for the members, and memories using the first consonant of Hangul, "ㄱ" ✍🏻
RM's poem "ㄱ-handa" that touches the hearts of listeners! 😭🌊
🎉 Celebrating 578 years since its birth 🎉 While remembering the value of Hangul,
let's recite a poem in Korean with RM ❕🎶
Once you understand Hangul, it's fun to specifically understand Namjoon's favorite wordplay. I wonder if I'll be able to understand Jin's dad jokes eventually lol
This is the "Bangtan Ka-Na-Da-Ra Song" from the KBS channel (*´艸`)
"Learn! KOREAN" with BTS
It is located in "BTS Community > Media" on Weverse. You can go there via tags on a browser, but I wonder how to get there on the smartphone app.
EP 01. BTS from ㄱ to ㅎ
Practice consonants using Bangtan's vocabulary. This is the Hangul introduction episode.
EP 02. Hello, we are BTS
Learn the self-introduction "안녕하세요, 〇〇 입니다 (Hello, I am 〇〇)." By the way, I want to do "Bang! Tan!" too lol
EP 03. Have you been well?
Learn Korean greetings such as "잘 지냈나요? (Have you been well?)" and "오랜만이에요 (Long time no see)."
EP 04. Thank you
We will learn expressions of gratitude: '감사합니다 / 고마워요'. These are high-frequency words!
EP 05. Numbers (Sino-Korean): 1, 2, 3
We will learn Sino-Korean numbers. This episode includes the scene from the number game where Jimin completely self-destructed lol
EP 06. ARMY
We will learn how to use honorifics and titles like the '-ya' in '🐹Yoongi-ya!', the '-ssi' in '🐰Jimin-ssi', and 'Hyung'. Essential!
EP 07. Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow
A great episode where you can also learn to sing along to '어제의 나 오늘의 나 내일의 나 (Yesterday me, today me, tomorrow me)' from 'Answer: Love Myself'.
EP 08. Numbers (Native Korean): 1, 2, 3 (items)
EP 05 was '1, 2, 3', and this time it's 'one, two, three'. Please watch it while tearing up to the '믿는다면 하나 둘 셋 (If you believe, one, two, three)' part of '2!3!'...!
EP 09. Our ARMY
We learn '우리 (uri / our)', which is packed with Korean sentiment. The subject is 'Our ARMY (everyone)', and it's super sweet. I can't focus on the lesson at all!!
EP 10. I purple you
We learn how to express colors, but because there are so many words and the members are so cute, it's a very packed episode.
EP 11. Eyes, nose, lips
An episode about learning words for body parts. Young V with blonde hair and colored contacts says 'My eyes are swollen right now', but I can't understand it at all. I'll go look for the main video later.
EP 12. Really cool
A compilation episode of words that BTS uses very often. Words like 'jincha', 'neomu neomu', and 'daebak' keep appearing—you've definitely heard them before. It's addictive...!
EP 13. Who are we?
An episode about interrogatives like '누구? (nugu? / who?)'. I burst out laughing when everyone's favorite flower Hobi descended during the final ARMY TIME lol
EP 14. I eat a meal
These are basic verbs like '먹다 (to eat)' and '자다 (to sleep)', but as you can guess from these words, the videos are so good that nothing sticks in my head!
Explanations like 'add -아요 depending on the vowel at the end of the verb stem' are slipped in casually, but they're too casual, and I'm too busy swooning to keep up with the understanding lol
EP 15. Happy Birthday
The episode where you learn the 'saeng-il chukha hamnida' that every ARMY can sing. It's a collection of birthday videos!
EP 16. Negative Expression: 안
For this part, just remember 'just use 안' along with how cute Bangtan is, and review it with something else later lol
EP 17. Happy
An episode about learning emotional expressions... but it's adorable that it's all HAPPY words like 'happy (행복하다)', 'glad (기쁘다)', and 'excited (신나다)'. It reminds me of Jungkook's 'gippeunde (기쁜데)'~.
EP 18. BTS's Hometown
An episode where you can learn the names of Bangtan's hometowns, like Busan and Daegu. There's a map, so it's easy to understand. I want to keep this in mind when listening to 'Paldogangsan' and 'Ma City' (*´艸`)
EP 19. Cold, Hot
An episode where I'm too busy adoring Bangtan warming each other up when it's cold and sticking together while saying it's hot, so the explanation that 'ㅂ + vowel-starting ending = ㅂ changes to 우' doesn't sink in.
EP 20. Cool
The episode where I realized that what V was shouting in the social game 'BTS WORLD S2' was 'Isn't it cool!?'. It's a god-tier episode full of words I'd want to say if I ever met the members, like 'wonderful' and 'cute'.
EP 21. Dialect
A satoori (dialect) episode where the members' accents are cute. It even includes the nostalgic Mandako footage by the 95-line, which is great! Let's take a break from studying lol
EP 22. Negative Expression: 못
Following EP 16, another negative expression episode. I often mishear these, so it's easy to understand when they point it out with subtitles saying 'Here!'
EP 23. Shall we start?
An episode about suggestion expressions like '열어 볼까요?' (Shall we open it?), which is like 'Let's'. I understand that whenever I hear '~bolkayo?', it means 'being invited to do something'. Whether that's correct or not is another story.
EP 24. Seollal and Chuseok
To use a Japanese analogy, it's like New Year's and Obon, but for ARMY, it's an 'event where you can see BTS in Hanbok.' I can feel the management's desire to teach not just the language, but the culture too, with this one lol
EP 25. I want to see you
The episode where we learn the '-want to' expression. This includes 'bogoshipda' (I miss you/I want to see you), which ARMY have repeated to death over the last two years.
EP 26. I know, I don't know
The episode where you understand 'moreugesseo!' (I don't know), which you'll inevitably memorize after watching BTS's loud headphone games.
EP 27. BTS's music production
A treasure trove of an episode packed with words that frequently appear in behind-the-scenes footage and interviews, such as 'nogeum' (recording), 'anmu' (choreography), and 'gasa' (lyrics). Personally, this is a must-watch!
EP 28. Please look forward to it
This is another one you hear all the time. 'Juseyo' is used like 'please.' You hear it often in show hosting too, like 'Roll the VTR! -> VTR juseyo!'
EP 29. I want you to be happy
The episode where we learn expressions for conveying wishes. I'm overwhelmed by the love BTS has for ARMY...!
It's definitely a message we want to convey to BTS as well. The ending is moving. Are you me? (;∀;)
EP 30. I love you
The end is a barrage of 'joahada' (to like) and 'saranghada' (to love), so watch it when you're alone!!
If you want the physical book, head to the SHOP!
The textbook is also sold on Weverse SHOP. If you're interested, please go buy it (*´艸`)

The words of my bias that I want to learn little by little
Thinking of it as 'studying' makes you tense up, but if you think of it as 'I want to read a love letter from my bias,' you'll want to clear it for dear life lol
When just watching videos, you can wait for subtitles, but for concerts, it's real-time, so it's quite desperate. I wonder if a miracle will happen and I'll turn into a Korean.
The passion of ARMYs who want to understand their bias's words in real-time and speak the same language as them has led to an increase in Korean language learners, and BTS has even received a medal in recognition of their contribution to its spread. As always, the scale is huge.
Blue House spokesperson Kim Eui-kyeom stated, 'It was decided to award BTS the Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit for their contribution to the development of popular culture and arts, such as the spread of the Korean Wave,' and added, 'Many young people overseas are contributing not only to the spread of the Korean Wave but also to the spread of Hangeul, such as by singing Korean lyrics in groups.'
When I first read this article, I only thought, 'That's amazing,' but looking back at myself now—as I find myself blurting out 'Omo omo' or 'Jinjja?' in random moments, with my brain's 'Become a BTS Citizen' plan in full swing—I'm startled by how infectious it is.
I want to boost my language skills a little while watching BTS videos. These learning videos are for those greedy ARMYs. The youngest you'll ever be is right now. It's never too late!
Anyway, let's watch the videos because they're cute. I love how they pretend to be studying but it ends up being like a funny highlight reel lol
This series is so fun, I hope they release more~.
