The "Decision" to Change Perspective

Today's Bible Passage

I keep the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. (Psalm 16:8, NRSV)

Once ignited, the feeling of loneliness spreads in an instant, filling our thoughts with "darkness." However, when we stand on the brink of loneliness, God asks us to make a "choice." It is a choice between continuing to focus on our own "emotions" or focusing on the "God" who is with us.

David said, "I keep the Lord always before me." This is not merely a mood, but signifies a willful "decision." If left to our own devices, we tend to place our worries, the words of someone who ignored us, or our own shortcomings "before our eyes." Instead, we must consciously place "God's love" and "God's promises" at the center of our vision.

God is near to the brokenhearted. When you are lonely and your heart is shattered, it is the very opportunity to feel God most closely. Loneliness can also be called a "holy silence" intended to turn our attention toward God.

If you feel that you are in darkness right now, try tuning your heart to the frequency of God's presence that is there. Even if God seems silent, He is constantly whispering His love to you.

Instead of lamenting, "I am alone," let us declare, "God, I thank You that You are before me. Your joy is my strength." When our perspective changes, a "new conviction" and "joy" that transcend the situation will well up from within.


Today's Meditation

・What am I placing "before my eyes" right now? Is it my worries, or is it the Lord?

・While feeling lonely, try to intentionally declare out loud, "I keep the Lord before me."

・Instead of being swayed by emotions, make a resolution to stand on the "unchanging foundation" of God's promises.
