With every 'Yes', happiness grows

For some reason, my husband always adds 'Yes' before saying 'I'm home' or 'Welcome back'.

“Yes, I'm home.”
“Yes, welcome back.”

I suppose it's just a habit of his.
And recently, it's rubbed off on our son, too.

I was watching them with a smile, thinking, 'It's not just their faces that look alike, but their turns of phrase, too,' when I realized that I, too, had started saying, 'Yes, welcome back.'

It wasn't just father and son who grew to resemble each other.
It was the same for us as a couple. It's kind of funny. It makes me blush.

Back when we were just married, my mother-in-law told me something.

“Since you're a married couple, you'll have your ups and downs and you'll probably fight, but if you're already in a bad mood before you leave, you won't be able to do your job properly, right?”

“Besides, you never know what might happen in life. That 'Have a good day' might be the last thing you ever say to each other. If you part on bad terms, you'll regret it for the rest of your life.”

To be honest, right after she said that, I felt like I was being forced to do it and I got annoyed (sorry, Mother-in-law!), but when I thought about it carefully, I realized she wasn't wrong.

Since then, I've followed my mother-in-law's advice and make sure to see everyone off at the door, at least in the mornings.

Not just my husband, but the children too.
Even if I'm doing laundry or washing dishes, I always stop what I'm doing, go to the entrance, and send them off with a bright smile.

“Yes, have a good day!”

I end up saying 'Yes' here too, don't I? (laughs)
*In our house, we also add 'Yes' to 'I'm leaving' and 'Take care'.

Thankfully, there haven't been any 'what ifs' so far, and everyone has always come home safely.

'Yes, I'm home.'
'Yes, welcome back.'

Perhaps in our home, happiness grows with every 'Yes'.
I find myself wanting to keep building up these ordinary, everyday moments from here on out.
