Even if you are a picky eater, you aren't missing out on life
The thing I hate most in this world is birds.
When I was a child, I witnessed a chicken being slaughtered, and it became a trauma. Since then, I've hated even seeing birds, and consequently, I've come to hate zoos as well.
Let alone eating their meat... it's just too disgusting!!
I don't eat chicken itself, nor do I eat anything containing chicken extract. The thought that a part of that horrific bird is inside makes me feel sick and gives me chills. That's why I've never bought consommé or Chinese soup stock, and I always check the ingredient labels on things like curry roux. Surprisingly, many foods contain chicken extract, damn it.
When I eat out, it's Japanese food only. However, there's a high probability that I can't eat the "daily special set meal." That's because items offered at a good price often use cheap chicken. (As an aside, I also hate pork and only eat beef.)
The "chawanmushi" (steamed egg custard) that comes with set meals is also a tricky one. This also has a high probability of containing chicken. When ordering a set meal that includes chawanmushi, it's a must to confirm, "Does this contain chicken?" The day I'm told it doesn't, I feel like I've won the lottery! I can't help but think (from a superior perspective) that this restaurant knows how to make delicious chawanmushi even without the umami of chicken.
Since I hate even looking at birds, touching them is obviously impossible! I have never cooked a chicken dish in my life. Once, my daughter said, "I didn't know you could make fried chicken at home." Because of me, I almost raised an ignorant person. I am truly sorry for that. Fried chicken, cream stew, and oyakodon (chicken and egg bowl) never appear in our home, but they can all be made at home.
My family often tells me, "You're missing out on half of life by not being able to eat this and that!" but since I'm enjoying the things I like, I'm not missing out at all. On the contrary, I don't understand at all what I'm missing out on.
Ah, I wish birds would just disappear from this world.
Talking about birds is starting to make me feel sick, so I'll stop now.
I need to start preparing dinner soon. It's simple today. Rice, daikon radish miso soup, grilled salted salmon, spinach ohitashi, and tamagoyaki (rolled omelet)!
See? Even if you can't eat chicken, it looks delicious enough, right?

[Afterword]
The "I" who appears in the text is my mother. My mother cannot eat chicken at all and cannot even touch it. But, she eats eggs. I always thought, "It's something laid by the bird you hate so much, you know?" but according to her, she's fine with eggs. When and what was she thinking when she tried eating eggs? I wish I could have asked her while she was still alive.
