Terakoya Anecdotes 11
One day last year, a university student assistant said to me,
They say people marry due to a lack of judgment, divorce due to a lack of patience, and remarry due to a lack of memory.
That is what they told me.
Oh, I see. Then I suppose I am not lacking in any of those?
When I said that,
They replied, No, Sensei, you have only been tested on your judgment so far.
That is what they said.
Hahaha.
They are absolutely right. Haha.
I enjoy this kind of idle chatter with my students and assistants. And I like the students who join in on it.
I enjoy students who play along with it.
Conversations that seem pointless at first glance, but lead to imagining various things and provide an opportunity to think, and then develop from there, can unexpectedly remain in one's memory.
Conversations that seem pointless at first glance, but lead to imagining various things and provide an opportunity to think, and then develop from there, can unexpectedly remain in one's memory.
Also, sharing something you just heard, something you thought was interesting, something fun, or something sad with someone else,
can unexpectedly become a precious time for learning.
I would like to cherish such moments as well.
