The day the Summer Solstice and St. John's Day overlap. The cycles of the universe and my own 'sovereignty'

Today, June 21, 2026, is the 'Summer Solstice'.
And at the same time,
in Steiner education and European tradition,
it is also the scene of 'St. John's Day' (6/24), an important milestone.

The breathing of the universe left behind by Rudolf Steiner,
the 'Calendar of the Soul,' and the Eastern 'Twenty-Four Solar Terms'—

these two rhythms
are overlapping in a mysterious way this year.

The West and the East. Seeing these two calendars
resonating at the same time,

a great, invisible flow
is something I cannot help but feel especially strongly this year.

During this time when the sun's light pours down most intensely,
our souls, too,
open up widely to the outside world.

The passionate energy of 'standing on our own two feet'

Right now, even within society,
a passionate energy of 'standing on our own two feet' is in motion.

The other day, 314 locations nationwide (including cross-border solidarity)
joined in solidarity with the 'National Diet Front Gate Action 0619' in Tokyo.

Near my home, in front of Toyohashi Station,
there was an action with 50 people.

The image above is of him, who usually continues standing in Okazaki City.
He kept waving an anarchy flag
until his arm went numb.

In this way,
rather than 'leaving politics to others,'

each person holds their own will
and raises their voice as a [sovereign] of society.

That figure
stands as straight as the strong light of this summer solstice.

By gathering like this,
we are giving each other

courage and energy,
saying, 'I am not alone.'

The seeds of 'education for freedom' to live as a sovereign

Those seeds
are also being quietly sown in our daily classes.

In this month's children's class,
we held a lesson on 'drawing geometric solids' using compasses with the 5th graders.

This content also beautifully links
with the 'Topic Course / Number Concepts 1-12' for adults.


Deciding on a center,
drawing a circle,

and deriving the beautiful order born from that
with one's own hands.


Learning geometry is

the secrets of the universeexperiencing
at the same time as it is

'the axis of oneself'a lesson in
beautifully establishing.

As for my desk work while I ponder the universe, society, and education,
at my feet (or rather, at my fingertips)...

I am a servant to my cat, but I am the sovereign

It has become a season where I worry about sweat on my wrists
from working on the PC.

Suddenly, I noticed that on my favorite cat towel
placed on the desk,

my real cat
is clearly captured on the screen.

'Oh, you cutie...'

Raising one's voice to society.

Exploring the beauty of the world
with children.

And,

cherishing the small existence
right in front of me.

Everything is
as the 'sovereign' of your own life

freely and flexibly
a time that can only be savored because you are 'living'.

This light-filled
season of the Summer Solstice (though it is the rainy season in Japan)

I would like to savor deeply.
