Devotion and possessiveness are two sides of the same coin
Fukazume back then was a devoted person.
More straightforward than anyone, stronger than anyone,
it seemed as though they were looking at only one person.
There was no lightness, no wavering, and they were somewhat stoic,
and I felt something like a sense of security in that.
But looking back now, I realize that within that devotion,
another quality was contained.
That was possessiveness.
I didn't know it at the time.
That he was trying to get between me and the teacher,
so that I couldn't get close to them,
or that deep down, he felt,
"I've been interfered with," "I've been pulled away."
All of those things were,
spoken by his own mouth later on.
Back then,
whenever I was feeling down, he would stay by my side.
Even when I was taken to the rooftop by the teacher,
You followed me naturally,
saying nothing, just staying close by.
That presence of yours,
looked like you were worried about me.
But at the same time, I think,
a force to keep me from leaving was also at work.
Being devoted,
and the desire to possess,
are very much alike.
Because both look like you care deeply for the other person.
But the difference,
lies in a very quiet place.
Devotion respects the other person.
No matter who they interact with or where they are,
it accepts them for who they are.
On the other hand, possessiveness,
tries to keep the other person within its own reach.
It pushes other relationships away,
and toward things it cannot enter,
it harbors discomfort or dissatisfaction.
What existed within him
was both devotion and possessiveness.
However, they were not clearly separated,
but were mixed together very naturally.
At that time, I
accepted it as 'devotion'.
Within that,
there was also a power that would not let me be free.
Devotion and possessiveness are two sides of the same coin.
Even if they look similar,
what they give to the other person is completely different.
Back then, I
did not yet know the difference.
But now, I understand it clearly.
That being truly cherished
does not mean being tied down.
And so, I
chose a relationship where I could remain free.
