Enriching Life with Shareholder Perks | Grabbing Future Freedom with Dividends | Steady Investing in One Stock This Month Part 1
How I got started with stock investing
"I want to be rich"
Whether it's achievable or not,
I think most people feel this way.
Even if you think you want to be rich,
it's too vague,
and you don't know what to do or how to do it.
15 years ago, when I felt that way,
I came across the book
Rich Dad Poor Dadby Robert Kiyosaki.
I encountered it.
"Let your money work for you."
I didn't even know such a way of thinking or a world existed
until I read that book.
What should I do to make money work for me?
Real estate and starting a business were too high a hurdle for me.
Hmm...
Maybe I can do stock investing?
This is how I encountered stock investing.
Covering living expenses with just shareholder perks?
After that,
while I was going through the motions of
opening an account with an online brokerage and waiting for the application to be approved,
I bought the investment magazine Diamond ZAi
while full of anticipation, wondering,
"What should I invest in?"
I learned about
Hiroto Kiritani.
It was quite a shock...
"It's amazing that you can cover your living expenses with shareholder perks!"
I immediately became a fan.
*By the way, much later,
I learned that Mr. Kiritani is an amazing shogi player, haha.
At first, I bought a few stocks
aiming for the perks of my favorite chain stores
for under 200,000 yen per stock.
For several years
I enjoyed investing almost exclusively for the sake of shareholder perks.
← Of course, I always had the desire to become wealthy,
but
I wasn't actually doing anything to make it happen.
The turning point was marriage and childbirth, followed by
being unable to return to work... I was in financial trouble!
My son had a chronic illness,
and by the time he turned three, his staple foods were
udon, bananas, tofu, and milk from a baby bottle. That was it...
In a situation like this, naturally
I was rejected by all the daycare centers*
and couldn't return to work.
*Later, I was able to get approval
only for the daycare at the company where my husband works.
I worried that I might have to dip into my (pre-marriage) savings,
which made me realize I was in financial trouble...
At that time,
I came across
Jason's Way of Growing Money
by Atsugiri Jason.
Keep three months' worth of living expenses and invest the rest.
I understood the logic, so I decided to put my savings
into investments (or rather, break into them)...
This was right when the invasion of Ukraine began...
The yen was weakening, and stock prices were plummeting.
I spent 500,000 yen on US ETFs,
and then one after another,
I placed buy orders for stocks with perks I had been interested in for a while...
Now, I have about 96% of my total assets invested.
Shareholder perks are for enjoying the present.
Dividends are for investing in the future.
I want to share my investment method
as much as possible.
