[Deep Dive with AI] It may not just be an AI revolution, but a 'quiet tectonic shift in our view of humanity' that is beginning
Recently, as I've been thinking about generative AI, things have started to become clearer little by little.
At first, I thought it was just a convenient tool.
Searches become faster.
It writes text for you.
Work becomes more efficient.
That was the extent of my understanding.
However, after using AI quite a bit over the last few months, my own perspective has changed.
Studying stocks.
Organizing work.
Articulating what I think about on a daily basis.
Verifying hypotheses.
Processing emotions.
I have started using AI quite routinely for things like that.
Then, strangely enough,
the feeling that
'the resolution of the world is increasing'
AI is starting to become a 'thinking environment' rather than a 'search engine'
It is a little different from reading a book.
It is also different from searching.
In a dialogue with AI,
the discomfort you are currently feeling
your own unique questions
vague sensations
thoughts that cannot be put into words
can be explored on the spot.
Moreover, AI can
summarize
compare
abstract
concretize
counter-argue
present alternative perspectives
instantly.
Therefore, it is not just about acquiring knowledge,
but feels like it is becoming 'an aid to thinking itself'.
Recently, what has really resonated with me is
that AI will not end up as just a 'convenient tool'.
Rather, AI is
going to become
the 'premise of thought' itself.
That is the feeling I have.
It is
the era of 'connected intelligence'.
The era of 'connected intelligence'
Since the modern era, humans have been understood as
independent individuals
autonomous subjects
beings who think alone
.
However, in the AI era, that very premise may change.
This is because for future humanity,
consulting with AI
bouncing ideas off AI
organizing emotions with AI
learning in collaboration with AI
creating together with AI
will become the norm.
In other words,
'a state where thought is connected to external intelligence from the start'
will become the premise.
This is not merely about efficiency,
but a 'change in the very view of intelligence'
I believe.
In the past,
Memory
Rote memorization
Individual knowledge volume
were important.
But in the AI era,
the ability to ask questions
the ability to sense something is off
the ability to prompt AI appropriately
the ability to verify output
the ability to edit meaning
will increase in value.
In other words,
a transition from
'individual intelligence'
to
'connected intelligence' may be beginning.
The AI-native generation has different 'premises for thinking'
We today are still in
an era where we thought without AI
The era when we were lonely without AI
The era when we wrote text without AI
I know those times.
That is why I can compare.
However, the generation born after the advent of generative AI is different.
For them, AI is not
'a convenient new technology'
but rather
'an environment that exists like air from the very beginning'
for them.
Consequently,
consulting with AI
thinking together with AI
organizing emotions with AI
learning with AI
creating with AI
will become extremely natural.
And they themselves will not perceive this as 'dependence'.
Because for them,
'thinking is something that is co-generated'
That is why.
And conversely, 'humanity' begins to be redefined
What is interesting, however, is that the more deeply you use AI, the more, conversely,
ambiguity
noise
contingency
inefficiency
physicality
the value of things like these also becomes apparent.
This is somewhat similar to the trend where painting changed after the advent of photography.
When photography appeared, many people thought,
'Painting is over'
they thought.
But in reality, it was the opposite.
As a result of having the role of 'realism' taken away by photography, painting instead,
Impressionism
abstract painting
expressionism
and other forms began to search for 'expressions that only humans can create'.
Perhaps AI is the same.
AI is,
easily understood
organized
optimized
comfortable
moving in a direction that is.
Therefore, conversely,
humanity
inexplicable lingering resonance
noise
a sense of being alive
the value of these things is beginning to be re-evaluated.
In other words, the AI era is,
not an 'era where humans become unnecessary'
but rather,
perhaps an 'era where what it means to be human is, conversely, brought into focus.'
It may be that.
Not an 'AI revolution,' but a 'quiet tectonic shift in our view of humanity'
What I have been feeling recently is that
the changes happening now
are more akin to
an 'AI revolution'
rather than
a 'quiet tectonic shift in the view of humanity'.
Moreover, that change is quietly permeating
because it is convenient
because it is comfortable
because it reduces anxiety
because it is easy to understand
for these reasons.
In other words,
'before you know it, the premises of being human have changed'
is the type of change it is.
And furthermore, it includes
regionality
religion
nation
language
gender
Community
Capitalism
Education
and other deep structures of human society are all intertwined.
Therefore, the future AI society will not end with
simple 'technological evolution'.
Rather,
'what kind of view of humanity we combine with AI'
is what I feel will be the question of the coming era.
And future historians may read
our current dialogue logs with AI
as 'a record of the era when humanity first began to coexist with external intelligence on a daily basis'.
Perhaps we are currently standing at the very initial stage
of a truly significant change.
