Question 043: I was surprised that my mistakes decreased so much and I could hit such good shots
※※※※ (Name) ※※ years old. I am an assistant coach.
Improvement Method I read it and tried it immediately. I was surprised that my mistakes decreased so much and I could hit such good shots.
Also, I was able to keep rallies going and attack balls from intermediate/advanced students as well as balls from beginners, so I felt my strokes became quite stable.
Answer
▶Students improve a coach's "adaptability"
The position of a coach basically requires that you don't make mistakes before the students do, and it's not just about hitting freely; you are required to play the role of providing balls that are easy for the students to hit.
Of course, there are lesson objectives where you hit difficult balls to help students level up, but that balance is important.
At the same time, as you mentioned, because you have to respond to intermediate/advanced players who hit fast balls, as well as beginners whose shot speed and control vary, there is actually an aspect where the coach themselves is receiving a lesson from the students to improve their own adaptability through the lesson.
▶Parents are "parental beginners"
Well, this is generally true for everything.
Teachers learn from students, parents learn from children, and bosses learn from subordinates.
Doctors learn from patients.
Just because you graduated from a top-tier medical school doesn't mean you will become a great doctor.
You grow as a doctor by learning from patients through practical experience from there.
Parents are also beginners at being parents.
Before having children, you have never once served as a parent in your life until now.
What does the child want?
What do you do if they suddenly get a fever?
Do they have any worries?
How do you handle school enrollment procedures?
There are countless things you won't know until you try.
Parents learn from their children.
▶Instructors are also "human"
If you have the awareness that you are actually "learning" while you seem to be teaching, the job is fun, and your ability in that position will increase accordingly.
However, I would like you to be aware of one thing: coaches (as well as teachers, doctors, bosses, and parents) are, human.
They also make "mistakes".
So, didn't we also say things like this about such teachers when we were students?"That teacher plays favorites," "They are bad at teaching," "The class isn't interesting," "Mr./Ms. ※※ was better"
The instructor side is also put in that position.
I also remember when I first started Tennis Zero, I was scolded severely when I responded to a question like "What mindset should I have when playing a tie-break?" with "
Just do it casually".
Just because you are a coach yourself,
please don't corner yourself by thinking "I must teach properly!" or "I must be trusted by my students!".
▶The "courage to ask" for help
This is exactly when you shouldmuster a little courage and ask your students to "teach you".
What kind of lesson do they want?
When you ask, students will gladly teach you.
And I think such instructors areactually trusted more than teachers, doctors, bosses, parents, and coaches who always try to be perfectly upright.
