Question 030: Return probability is over 90%!
Today, I played tennis and immediately put it into practice.
Starting with short strokes, then moving on to strokes.
During practice, the timing didn't quite match up...
I tried vocalizing, but somehow... It doesn't improve immediately, does it?
However, what was different from usual was the impression that my body movements became a bit sharper.
The power of my stroke shots was completely different from usual... It felt like they weren't hitting the net, but rather going over.
Our club has a distribution of 5% practice and 95% matches, so without even practicing serves,
I went straight into matches.
And then, I tried hitting a serve.
Vocalizing in the same way,
From the first game to about the third game, there were many double faults,
and the power of my serves was weak, so I couldn't hold serve, but
as you advised me, Mr. Yoshida,
when I switched to a spin-type serve and started hitting,
I started to get into the zone, and the subsequent double faults decreased drastically.
The power of my serve and my vocalization seemed to gradually become proportional (laughs).
Strokes and returns.
At first, perhaps because my long-standing defensive instincts were at work,
the timing for returns didn't match,
but the timing started to match little by little, and I started returning them.
And then, I noticed one thing.
Since it's a doubles match, we take turns returning,
so even when I was waiting, I watched my partner's return and
vocalized. Somehow.
Or, while waiting, I observed the returns and strokes of other people's matches and
vocalized.
It gradually improved.
Even if I don't say it's sharp, the probability of the return going over the net
reached almost 100%. (Excluding side outs and baseline misses, though.)
And the return probability is over 90%!
Stroke sensation.
I started to match the timing of the opponent's deep balls, short balls,
slow balls, and fast balls during the match,
and I started to reliably hit them over the net.
Originally, my creed was topspin,
but today, it changed to a nearly flat (maybe natural spin?)
thick contact. Perhaps the speed increased because of that,
and the power increased?
Standing straight form.
When I realized it, I was playing tennis standing straight with a sloppy form,
without bending my knees and without holding my racket up.
It's a strange feeling that I can get power with this.
Answer
▶ Improving rapidly with the effect of "compound interest"
It's great that you tried it in a game and had results early on.
In particular, the stat of having a return success rate of over 90 percent is a high average, isn't it?
Once your condition improves like that, a virtuous cycle begins to spin, and you start heading in a good direction all at once.
The luck mentioned here is something that, if you talk about it to others, it will also increase more and more from a brain science perspective.
Or, it's an effect like "compound interest," which Albert Einstein, who is considered the greatest physicist of the 20th century, called the "greatest invention of mankind", where experience is added to blossomed talent, and the image of talent growing like a snowball.
Please continue for a while in that state.
▶ "Ngaaaaa!"
The power of my serve and my vocalization seemed to gradually become proportional (laughs).
It certainly exists, when you get into the groove.
Even if players like Rafael Nadal start playing quietly at the beginning, when they get into the groove and when it becomes a close match, their vocalization becomes powerful accordingly.
Some people say "there is no flow," but there is.
Ride that flow.
▶ Vocalization in martial arts is a "technique"
"Sei!"
"Ya!"
You might have the impression that the "shouts" and "vocalizations" in martial arts have a strong spiritual meaning, but they are actually effective means for gaining rhythm and timing.
In other words, they are a "technique."
In throwing events in track and field, such as the shot put and hammer throw, athletes shout "Ngaaaaa!" at the moment of release, right?
That also releases power, and at the same time, they are adjusting the timing of the release to be just right through vocalization.
▶ Why do they shout after throwing?
Or do you know why they shout after the release?
That is a measure to ensure they don't weaken their power until they finish the throw.

As I mentioned somewhere else, it is a trick similar to setting the finish line of a 100-meter dash further ahead.
If you set the goal at the 100-meter finish tape, your running power will weaken there.
If you set the goal further ahead and "run through" it, you can achieve your fastest sprint.
▶ The "forbidden move" of the tennis world
In tennis, the grunting "grounding" by Monica Seles, Maria Sharapova, and others is a "forbidden move" that even draws protests from opponents.
Calling it a "forbidden move" reminds me of Tatsumi Fujinami's Dragon Suplex.
As mentioned here, it's like raising a "monster" inside yourself.
Standing straight form.
When I realized it, I was playing tennis standing straight with a sloppy form,
without bending my knees and without holding my racket up.
It's a strange feeling that I can get power with this.
However, you have noticed (are conscious of) the fact that you are still in a "standing straight form."
When you truly stop being conscious of your form, in other words, when you concentrate on the ball, you won't even know if you are standing straight or standing sloppily.
That is the purpose of vocalization.
Some people criticize "grounding" as an intentional act of interference against the opponent, butSeles, Sharapova, or Nadal wouldn't do such petty things, would they?
It is effective.
Power increases.
Speed increases.
Timing matches.
Control becomes effective.
It has a tremendous effect.
