soil - Support for cultivating the heart | Cultivating the peace that flows between parent and child | Philosophy Introduction
Why I started soil
As children grow,
the things we can "do for them" decrease.
We cannot protect them forever.
We cannot keep anticipating their every need.
Even so, isn't there something a parent can do?
Beyond that question,
I arrived at the answer of "cultivating the heart."
I was once just a woman, and then I became a mother.
A newborn baby
needs all the support they can get,
and I faced that with all my heart and soul.
Holding them.
Helping them sleep.
Searching for the meaning behind their cries.
They were a being who could not live without me.
Eventually, they began to walk,
dress themselves,
and choose the clothes they would wear that day.
The support gradually decreased,
and it shifted from "doing for them" to "watching over them."
The things I can do for them directly are decreasing.
That is a joy,
and yet, it is also frustrating.
I cannot anticipate and protect them from everything.
From here on out,
the child will worry, get lost,
feel, learn,
and move forward with their own strength.
At that time, what can a parent do?
The answer I arrived at was,
"cultivating the soil of the heart."
Memories of feeling safe.
Experiences of being accepted.
Times when they were not denied.
Though invisible to the eye,
these things surely accumulate within the soil.
Eventually, buds will sprout,
roots will grow deep,
and they will become a tree that does not fall even when strong winds blow.
soil is
support for cultivating that soil of the heart.
Why I started soil
While raising my children,
I kept asking myself.
"How far can I support this child's life?"
I cannot protect them forever.
But I can cultivate the soil.
There is no life without hurt.
There is no future without uncertainty.
Even so,
if there is a foundation of peace within,
people can stand back up.
I wanted to be someone who cultivates the "soil of the heart" not only for my own children,
but also for mothers who feel shaken in their parenting,
and for children who are growing into adults.
That is the reason I started soil.
soil is
a place for children, and at the same time,
a place to cultivate the mother's soil as well.
When you wish to nurture a child's heart,
it may be the mother herself who is feeling shaken.
Is this okay?
Am I doing this right?
That is precisely why
I felt a place was needed where mothers could return to their inner selves.
It is not about becoming someone who never wavers,
but about being able to return even after you have been shaken.
That peace
naturally flows to the child.
A child's weaknesses are their individuality,
and their wavering becomes nourishment
that eventually becomes their strength.
soil is
not a place to change someone.
It is about cultivating the soil to return to one's inner self.
From there, a quiet cycle begins.

I value both.
