No. 44 | The 7 Habits Practice Journal | Spending 3 hours to create 5 minutes of the future
Feeling impatient with work that isn't progressing
Hello, this is Hao Papa.
Today, I worked on creating a video manual.
The finished video is only 5 minutes long. But it took me 3 hours to create those 5 minutes.

Thinking about the structure,
making the slides,
polishing the script,
recording, editing—
Before I knew it, the afternoon had already passed in a flash.
Does it really take this much time?
Honestly, I felt impatient.
I have a mountain of things I want to do. I want to move through them more quickly. I want results right now.
But I stopped and thought for a moment.
What I'm doing now isn't the result, it'spreparation.
This was time spent 'sharpening the saw'
In The 7 Habits, there is a habit called 'Sharpen the Saw'.
Instead of just focusing on cutting the tree in front of you,
you take time tosharpen the saw blade.
By doing so, you can progress many times more efficiently in the long run—
That is the way of thinking.

Today's 3 hours were exactly that.
Learning the 'flow' of making a video manual. Mastering my own 'template'. Preparing the 'foundation' for the next time I create one.
In other words, today's 3 hours were
time spentsharpening the sawto produce many pieces of content from here on out.
In terms of the P/PC balance concept,
P is the 'immediate result,' and PC is the 'capacity to produce that result'.
If you only rush to make one video (P),
the ability to make videos (PC) will not grow.
However, if you carefully nurture your "ability to create" like I did today,
you will be able to create better things faster in the future.
Today was aninvestment in my future self.
You must not proceed based on impulse

While working, I realized one more thing.
That is,
"you must not proceed based on impulse."
that is what it means.
If you record on impulse,
the talk will drift, the structure will fall apart, and it will take time to fix later.
Therefore,
first, list out what kind of content to create
organize the structure and flow before making slides
write a script and clarify what to convey before recording
Following this flow was ultimately the best shortcut.
"Begin with the end in mind"
"Put first things first"
These two habits come to life here as well.
Clarify the goal,
and prepare carefully toward it.
It seems like an obvious thing, but it is a step that one tends to rush and skip.
But today, I was able to value that.
A small step I can take tomorrow
I will connect today's realization to the next step.
Toward the end of the fiscal year,
I will list the content I want to create,
and I intend to properly position them within my annual plan.
Instead of saying "I'll do it someday,"
decide, "I will create this in [Month]."
By doing so,
you can move forward withintentionrather than just on a whim.
Is there something you
want to do but just can't seem to get started on?
If so—
If so—
How about taking
just 15 minutestoday to prepare for it?
Just think about the structure.
Just jot down what you need.
Just put it on your calendar.
Even that is an investment in your future.
Invitation to the 7 Habits® Practice Group
When you are tired of chasing immediate results,
or when you are wondering, "Is this really the right way?"
On days like that, you might need to stop and take time to think.
The 7 Habits® Practice Group is
not a place to be taught the right answer, but
a place for dialogue to find your own way forward.
What does "Sharpen the Saw" mean?
How do you practice the "P/PC Balance"?
Even if you understand it in your head, it's not easy to apply it to daily life.
That is why there are peers to think and experiment with together.
You are fine just as you are.
Why not walk forward, little by little, together?
