Tenyu's Struggle Diary - Part 2 | 4 Days Dedicated to My Future Self
This decluttering journey began with letting go of 10 years' worth of work documents, which I wrote about in my previous article.
I had said, "I wonder if I'll finish by the 16th? 🤣" but that was when I truly flipped the switch. During the Obon holiday, time began to flow a little differently than usual. I decided to clear my schedule as much as possible for these four days and focus entirely on decluttering. A 4-day journey that started with 3 items of clothing. August 13th. The first things I put into a trash bag were three pieces of clothing. "Is that all for today? 🤣" That was how it started. However, once I started moving, I gradually got into the zone. I decided, "One room per day. I won't stop until it's done," and from there, I pushed forward at full speed. On August 14th and 15th, I worked until around 3:30 AM. On the 16th, I worked until around 2:00 AM. Before I knew it, I was cleaning almost all day long 🤣 "I won't use this anymore." "I don't need this for who I am now." Picking up each item one by one, asking myself questions, and letting them go. Rather than just throwing things away, it became a time to think about, "What do I truly need for who I am now?"

When you let go of things, you can see what you really need. As the number of items decreased, the room became clearer and clearer. Then, strangely enough, while I was cleaning, I naturally started to realize what I wanted, thinking, "If I had this, it would be easier to use," or "I need this for my room now." Once I saw what I needed, I would head out to do a little shopping. Since I had been cleaning inside the house for so long, going out was a nice change of pace 😊 And when I returned, I went back to cleaning. By repeating this process, the space gradually became organized.

With that momentum, I washed the curtains, aired out the futons, washed the sheets, cleaned the air conditioner filters, and even scrubbed the toilet. Before I knew it, I wasn't just organizing things; I was organizing the space itself. And when it was all finished, the air really felt different. It wasn't just that the room was tidy; I had the sensation that the "heaviness" I had been carrying inside me had also gradually washed away. I realized once again that decluttering isn't just about throwing things away. 22 bags before I knew it. In my previous cleaning session, I had 10 bags of trash. This time, too, the trash increased little by little as I continued to clean. When I added it all up... I realized I had 22 bags. 🤣🤣 "Wow, was there really that much?" I was surprised myself. I love the number 22; it's a special number to me. "Ah, everything is moving along smoothly," I thought, and the moment I saw that number, my heart felt lighter. During this decluttering process, many such small synchronicities and mysterious events occurred. And in the end, after letting go of everything, what remained was the excitement of, "What shall I bring in next?"

"I'm finally done!" Just as I was thinking that and looking over my tidy room... my eyes suddenly landed on... 3 months' worth of receipts. 🤣 I still had one final homework assignment left 🤣

I wasn't done yet. Haha. I'll handle these at my own pace by the end of this month. Letting go is preparation for welcoming the future. Things I no longer use. Things that no longer fit who I am now. As I let go of those things, I strangely begin to see my "current self." New breezes blow into the empty spaces. And in those empty spaces, I can welcome what I need for my future self. I think this decluttering session was not just about cleaning the room, but a time to prepare for my future self to move forward more smoothly. Moving toward the future. You don't have to change everything at once. Let go of one thing. Organize one thing. Choose one thing that you truly need. Such small, steady steps eventually lead to the future. I wonder what kind of developments are in store~ 😊 Strangely enough, in my case, whenever I declutter, something usually starts to move afterward. So this time, too, I think I'll just wait and look forward to it, thinking, "Well, what's coming next?" I will continue to move forward without looking back. Because I am a cheetah that can only move forward 🤣🐆 I will continue to cherish my connections with people, go where I want to go, enjoy what I want to do, and spend my time on things I truly want to use it for. I intend to move forward toward the future, slowly but carefully. Organizing the past a little during the quiet time of Obon. Welcoming a new breeze into the empty space. Now then, what kind of scenery shall I go see next? 😊✈️ Messenger Tenyu
