And Yet the Earth Is Curved

In a certain small village, it was believed that the world was flat.
From the elderly to the children, the villagers had traditionally lived without ever doubting it.
Children were taught that if they walked straight, they would reach the end of the world and 'fall' off.

Amidst this, one young man

'And yet the Earth is curved'

kept saying.

He continued to say that he could 'feel the curve of the Earth' and walked around trying to convince the villagers, but
the other villagers thought of him as an 'eccentric'.

And no one would believe him.
Still, he continued to gaze at the sky every day and study the movement of the stars.

One day, the entire village was struck by a great storm.
Because of that storm, the mountains beyond the distant horizon appeared to be sinking, and
for the first time, the villagers realized that the horizon was not straight, but subtly curved.

The villagers were surprised and began to understand the meaning of what the young man had been saying:

'And yet the Earth is curved'

Among the village people, more and more began to think that the end of the world was not something you 'fall' off of, and that perhaps the Earth was an |oval|.

It is curved.
