My child won't go to school ②
My son, who had managed to go to school for about four days, was unable to go again.
The backlash from the joy of being able to attend was huge, and in the kitchen, I groaned, "Ugh..."
I knew he was trying too hard. But the joy we both felt as parent and child was real.
Due to various kinds of distress, my son became unable to get out of bed.
Anyway, I need to stay calm.
I pick up Kazuhisa Toba's "Parent-Child Notebook".
In a passage where the term "successful experience" is key, I realized that I, too, was trapped by the idea of "successful experiences."
Is success the only good thing? Is failing a bad thing?
Is being able to attend school a success? Is stopping in one's tracks a failure?
The phrase I have overwhelmingly and naturally taken for granted: "Failure is the stepping stone to success."
It seems to be a phrase that naturally emerged and took root from people's empirical rules. It wasn't invented by any one person.
If I just calm down, I can understand.
The fact that my child took on a challenge is truly wonderful. I am happy too.
He, who stopped in his tracks after that, later said, "I felt distressed thinking that this effort would have to continue forever."
He just stopped attending for a while because of the anxiety that was washing over him. That is an important emotion.
When I am facing my son, I am not his friend, nor am I his sister, but undeniably his "mother."
As a creature called a mother, having protected and raised my child since he was small and weak, even now that he has grown up, I still find myself trying to "protect and raise" him.
My son who stopped in his tracks, you are magnificent.
And, on the second day of his break, he seemed a little more cheerful.
"I think I'll start by trying to enjoy school," my son said.
Since today is Sunday, another week begins tomorrow.
I don't know if my son will go to school.
But, let's just accept it.
It's fine, it's fine.
As for him, he says he will participate in the sports festival on June 6th.
Well, I wonder what kind of week it will be.
As for me, I am actually looking forward to it a little.
That is simply the excitement that comes from taking a day off on a Saturday, when I usually work.
Excitement.
I think I'll keep it at just this level.
