It's Obon season ☀️—A heartwarming time to think of loved ones
As the summer heat reaches its peak, the season of "Obon" arrives. Many people may spend this time every year without much thought, but learning its meaning anew can change your perspective a little.

Obon is a traditional Japanese event where it is said that ancestors and deceased loved ones temporarily return to us. Gathering as a family, tidying up the Buddhist altar, preparing offerings, and putting your hands together in prayer—such quiet moments can also be a chance to reflect on yourself amidst your busy daily life.
Recently, more families are participating in joint memorial services at temples or offering flowers at tree burials. I believe that not being too caught up in formalities, but cherishing the feelings of "thank you" and "I want to see you again," is the best form of memorial service.
It is also a wonderful time to experience the welcoming fire (mukaebi) or farewell fire (okuribi) with small children and talk about the connection of life. It is an irreplaceable time that can only be spent with the whole family because it is summer vacation. Isn't that the gentle and warm charm that Obon holds?
A time during Obon that makes your heart feel a little cooler, even amidst the heat. Why not pause for just a moment this year and take some time to let your thoughts wander?
