A Holiday Without Complaining
vol.324
Today, I took a summer vacation day.
…That said, since I spent the morning working hard in my home garden, I am… already exhausted…😅
However, I wanted to relax tomorrow and the day after, so I feel glad I got done what I needed to do today〜
In this way, I am sure everyone thinks every week about how to spend their time off beneficially.
Amidst that, an article recently appeared about how “high achievers” spend their holidays, so I would like to share it.
〈PHP Online / July 16, 2026〉
“115 Habits of People Expected by Their Company” and “Habits of Top 5% Employees Found Through AI Analysis” author, and Microsoft Japan Executive Officer who has served as business manager for major products such as PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Microsoft Teams, Shinji Koshikawa says
“People who are highly respected also had distinct ways of taking time off”
that is what he says.
First, when surveying 17,650 leaders, it was found that people who are highly expected 33% of the time, active rest and passive rest are intentionally used differently.
●Active rest
…a way of resting by moving your body, such as exercise or hobbies. ●Passive rest
●Passive rest
…a way of resting by spending time quietly, such as sleeping or reading.
This is said to be 1.2 times the ratio for general employees.
Mr. Koshikawa says,
"A director at a foreign-affiliated service chooses a way of resting that suits their fatigue, such as saying, 'I have a lot of desk work this week and my body feels sluggish, so I'll go to the gym on Saturday,' or 'I've been on constant business trips and am physically exhausted, so I'll take Sunday completely off.'"
He gives these examples, and there is data showing that people who change how they rest depending on the type of fatigue have 21% higher concentration time at the start of the week compared to others.21% higher.
By the way, I mentioned "exercise" as an example of active rest earlier, and 67% of people who are expected to succeed have hobbies that involve breaking a sweat.
This is 1.25 times the ratio for general employees.
"Exercise-induced serotonin and endorphins have a significant effect on physical and mental recovery. In the field of sports psychology, it is also reported that regular aerobic exercise reduces stress hormones. People who are expected to succeed take care of their mental health by incorporating exercise habits."
Mr. Koshikawa explains it this way, and I can relate very well because I also feel unwell if I don't exercise thoroughly for an hour twice a week🤔
And the thing I thought I “must be careful about…” the most this time is
“Not relieving stress by complaining”
is…
"There are many people who think that complaining at a drinking party is the best way to relieve stress. However, psychological research shows that the more you repeat complaints, the more stress is amplified and negative emotions are reinforced. On the other hand, people expected to succeed by their companies relieved stress in a sound and healthy way through multiple exercise habits to release stress."
…I see, …I see…
Complaining leads to a vicious cycle…
…This is definitely something I want to be careful about…🤐
Come to think of it, Akutagawa Prize-winning author Yasushi Inoue also
"Those who strive speak of hope, while those who are lazy speak of dissatisfaction."
I remember you saying that...
...If I ever feel like complaining, I will try to take it as a sign that I am not putting in enough effort...😅
But first, I will rest well and enjoy the time I have left.
That is the choice I would like to make~
Thank you very much for reading until the end today as well!
