Three days later, the completed data arrived from Yaeko.

“It came?”
Mizushima said, sounding surprised, to which
“Of course it did,”
Kobayakawa replied with a triumphant look.

After setting a date via email with Kobayakawa, Yaeko came again. Perhaps she had sorted out her feelings since returning home, because unlike last time, she now had a look of hidden determination.

Yaeko is 30 years old, a researcher at a major cosmetics manufacturer whose name everyone knows.

Influenced by her father, who was a high school chemistry teacher, she had been familiar with chemistry since she was a child. Her university major was, of course, chemistry-related. After graduating from graduate school, she joined a cosmetics manufacturer. Since joining the company, she has been in the same department for six years, engaged in research and development.
However, she has already taken steps to resign in one month. The reason is that she is tired of human relationships. She says she hopes for a similar job, even if it is not at a major company.

She answered all the items on the submission form, and as far as that went, it seemed she had lived a very ordinary life in a happy family. During the interview, there was no sign that she was lying about anything in particular.

“Thank you for answering in such detail. I have also noted Ms. Seto's wishes. However, as I mentioned the other day, there is a possibility that the job will be completely different, so please understand that. If you agree, please sign here.”

“Yes.”
Yaeko immediately picked up a pen and signed her name in beautiful handwriting.

“Thank you. That is all for today. We will contact you within a month, so please wait.”

“What do you think of her?”
Once Yaeko had left and they were alone, Kobayakawa asked Mizushima.

“She wrote in detail on the documents she handed over, giving the impression of being meticulous and serious. The handwriting on the contract was also neat. In her conversation with you, she seemed to give concise and accurate answers to the questions asked. She seems quick-witted.
She felt a bit stiff, but wouldn't she be the type who is capable at work even at a company? The competition for a research position at a major cosmetics manufacturer must be high, so it's not a place you can just get into easily.
A graduate school graduate at 30, that means she's in her sixth year at the company. Isn't this the time when she's moving past being a newcomer and starting to really engage with her work? It's a waste to quit.”

“I thought so too. However, even though she is in a blessed environment where she can do work right in her specialty, she didn't seem to find it all that rewarding. Another thing that bothered me was the trouble with human relationships. It didn't sound all that serious, though.”

“Is that so?”

“Let's explore that in the future. I've grasped her background and general personality. Alright, shall we move on to the next stage?”

Mizushima had no idea what they were going to do. This was his first time doing full-scale work here.
