The fear of your household account book is proof of your integrity
The obsession with control lurking behind the numbers
I will confess. Even I, working as a household finance expert, have nights where I am afraid to look at my own household numbers. It is never because my savings are about to run out, nor because I am spending excessively.
The act of opening a household account book is a ritual where you are confronted with the results of the many decisions you have made yourself. 'Why did I buy this at that time?' 'Why couldn't I act according to plan?' What is exposed in the light of day is your own imperfection itself.
Many people who worry that they cannot keep up with a household account book are actually very responsible and honest with themselves. Because they are honest, they cannot bear to face the fact that they have lost control. This is the true nature of the 'household management stress' that many people fall into.
To avoid walking through a minefield called 'logical arguments'
Household management techniques in the world often contain poison in the name of 'logical arguments.' 'Let's track expenses,' 'Let's stick to the budget.' These are correct in structure, but they can act as 'landmines' in our hearts.
The more you try to bind yourself with your own will, the greater the reaction. 'Discipline' in household management does not start with forcing yourself into a mold, but with observing the 'boundaries' of where your heart wavers and where your defensive instincts are at work.
Why not stop using numbers as a 'tool for judgment'? They are merely coordinates indicating your current position.
Regaining the perspective of an observer
If you are feeling heavy-hearted in front of your household account book right now, please put down your pen for a moment. And just look at yourself, feeling afraid to look at the numbers, from a distance.
I overcame my nighttime fear not by mobilizing all my knowledge as an FP, but when I abandoned the illusion of 'myself in perfect control.' What is important in household psychology is not managing the household, but redefining how you interact with yourself through your household finances.
To tune your own mental OS
For those who want to escape from the days of being swayed by numbers and find a way of managing household finances that is true to themselves. On my official LINE, I regularly deliver 'how to tune your household psychology,' combining my insights as an FP with psychology.
