There are cases where 'being wrong but fast' is better
Two days ago, I received something close to consulting services online.
(It wasn't full-scale consulting, but the content was almost entirely consulting.)
Among the advice I received was this:
'It's not bad to be particular about creating something good. However, when thinking about the business side, finishing it to a certain degree often leads to faster subsequent developments!'
That was the advice I was given.
This wasn't a rejection of me, but rather advice meant to show that such a way of thinking also exists.
Hearing this, something suddenly came to mind.
It's the relationship between Sugita Genpaku, who wrote the 'Kaitai Shinsho' (New Book of Anatomy), and Maeno Ryotaku.
It is said that when Sugita Genpaku and Maeno Ryotaku were about to publish the Kaitai Shinsho, their opinions differed.
(I've forgotten which was which.)
One said, 'If we release a book with imperfect translations into the world, it will cause trouble for those around us.'
The other argued, 'Even if the translation isn't perfect, if a certain portion is finished, we should publish the book early. Because by doing so, even one person might be saved!'
That is what they reportedly argued.
What is important here is that neither Sugita Genpaku nor Maeno Ryotaku rejected each other; they respected one another and proceeded with the creation of the book.
They skillfully combined their two opinions to create the book.
*There is a theory that Maeno Ryotaku didn't have his name listed as an author because he was dissatisfied with the book's translation, but this is my own interpretation.
This is because interpreting it this way is more beneficial for me personally.
And when thinking about it from a business perspective, in terms of how to approach work,
The best is 'correct and fast'
The second best is 'wrong but fast'
The third is 'correct and slow'
The fourth is 'wrong and slow'
I am deeply reflecting on the fact that I have been doing only the third and fourth ones.💦
