For those who give detailed instructions to AI every time | An AI assistant that works with a single keyword

When you ask AI to do a task,
don't you find yourself giving
detailed instructions every time?

Do this here.
Do this next.
Put those numbers over there.

Telling it one thing at a time
and finally getting one thing done.

I imagine there are some of you
who use it that way.

A little while ago,
for those wondering "What is a SKILL?"
I wrote about experiencing SKILL for free.

Summarizing what you always ask the AI
as a set of rules beforehand.
Then you can skip the instructions each time.
That is what a SKILL was.

Today, I will take that
a step further.

I used to leave only "a part" to the AI

Monthly expense reporting
has always been a chore for me.

Receipts and invoices
would pile up on my desk before I knew it.
Dealing with them all at the end of the month
was a bit depressing.

When I first started using AI,
I would have it read images of receipts
and extract the amounts.

That was as far as I asked it to go,
and while looking at the dates and items,
I would transcribe them
into a spreadsheet myself.

I never thought I could leave the whole process to it,
so I was using it
only to help with a part of the work.

Starting with a single phrase: "Let's do expense reporting"

I turned that whole process
into a SKILL.

Then, from the next time on,
I only had to type
the single phrase "Let's do expense reporting."

It reads the receipts,
organizes the contents,
and formats them into journal entries.

It handles everything up to the point
I used to transcribe myself.

Moreover, if information is missing along the way,
it asks me each time.

"What kind of expense is this payment?"
"Can I consider this a business expense?"

It proceeds while checking in
only where it might get lost.

Instead of proceeding silently on its own,
it asks when it doesn't understand something.

The AI, which used to be someone I gave instructions to one by one,
has turned into someone I can entrust with a series of tasks with a single word.
It feels more like
asking my own personal secretary.

Tasks that I used to face with hesitation every month
now start moving with a single word.
I feel like I have finally been freed
from that heavy feeling.

You don't need to memorize fixed phrases.

You don't need difficult procedures
to use SKILL.

SKILL comes with
an explanation of
what it is used for.

Claude prepares this in the perfect format
when you create a SKILL.

So you don't need to write
the settings yourself.

After that, it doesn't matter if you say "Let's do expense reimbursement,"
"Do the expense reimbursement,"
or "Execute expense reimbursement."

Even if your phrasing is slightly different,
Claude understands that you want to do expense reimbursement,
and it will
run the SKILL for you.

You don't need to memorize
fixed ways to call it.

I think some people might be wary
when they hear it starts moving on its own.

But as I mentioned earlier,
it will always check with you if it's unsure.

It can be entrusted,
but it won't run off on its own.
That is the reassuring part.

You can ask it right when you think of it.

This is what I like most about it.

ChatGPT and Gemini also have
mechanisms similar to SKILL.

However, in my experience using them,
I had to open their dedicated screens
before I could ask them.

Claude is a little different.

Sometimes I remember
that I need to do expense reports
while I am in the middle of
a completely unrelated chat.

If I just type "Let's do expense reports" right there,
it starts working on it immediately
without me having to switch screens.

I don't have to go out of my way to move to another place;
I just say the usual phrase
in the chat I'm already in.

This feeling is
exactly what I feel like
having my own personal assistant.
