A Story of How I Surprisingly Managed to Keep Learning [English and Italian] ②
Days when I realized that “Practice makes perfect”
Since I started learning on Duolingo, I've surpassed 85 consecutive days of study! I never thought I would be able to keep it up this long, so I'm a bit surprised myself.
My family also seemed to think, "I can't believe they kept it up..." Haha.
In the beginning,
"I don't have time."
was the excuse I used.
But in reality, I realized that it was just that "I didn't make time."
The 10 minutes at night changed things for me
Recently, spending 10 minutes before bed on Duolingo has become my daily routine.
It's strange how even just 10 minutes, when continued every day, really starts to add up.
Though being a little sleepy is the only downside.
Every time I see English or Italian words in my daily life, the moments where I think, "Oh, I've seen this before!" have been increasing.
For example—
When I see a banana at the supermarket, I remember, "This is the same in both English and Italian,"
and when I see caffè latte at a cafe, I get happy thinking, "Oh, this is the Italian 'caffè latte'!"
Speaking is still a work in progress, though...
To be honest, I'm still a bit bad at speaking.
Especially the Italian pronunciation; the rolled 'r' is difficult!
For example,
vorrei (would like)
I can't get the 'r' sound right, and the app doesn't recognize it easily.
Please teach me the authentic pronunciation!
Small successes build confidence
I think the best part of Duolingo is that it allows you to accumulate "small successes."
Continuing for 1 day → 5 days → 10 days... I'm happy that I'm naturally remembering things even if it's just a little bit, and that keeps my motivation up.
It's been about 3 months now.
I want to challenge myself to see what level I can reach in half a year or a year.
This is my 8th attempt at learning English, so what? Haha.
