Successful people fail a lot. The day my daughter's pool bag broke, I learned the "essence of success"
"I'm going to start a side hustle!"
Even though you thought that and
gathered the courage to
take the first step,
"I'm not getting the results I expected,"
"No one is watching or reading it,"
"It's just failure after failure. Maybe this isn't for me?"
Don't you ever
get hit
with feelings like that?
This is a "common experience"
that many people go through.
In fact, the more successful a person is,
the more they have traveled this path.
Failure is
a process
for succeeding.
You repeat it over and over,
and find the way
to make things work.
This time,
I'd like to talk about how
"failure is just a process for success."

The "essence of success" I learned from my daughter's pool bag repair mission
The other day, the handle of my daughter's favorite
pool bag
snapped off.
It's a pool bag
she has been using for 4 years
since she was in middle kindergarten.
When I suggested, "Let's go buy a new one,"
she quietly shook her head, saying,
"I want this one."
Even though it's tattered,
she wants this bag.
Seeing my daughter like that
was so admirable
and endearing.
I felt that I had to
fix it for her no matter what
—that's what I thought.
And so, Dad's
pool bag repair mission
began.
Mission 1: Try sewing the torn strap back together.
However... the drawstring had deteriorated, and
it ended up snapping off completely.
Plan 2: Remove the drawstring and sew on a new one.
But, while removing it,
the base tore,
leaving it in a state where I couldn't sew a new drawstring on.
Plan 3: Reinforce it with a patch and then...
Because the material is thick vinyl,
adding a patch
meant the sewing machine needle wouldn't go through.
Plan 4: Attach a new drawstring to the side part that wasn't torn?
The width was too narrow,
and sewing it with the machine
didn't go well at all.
Failure, and failure again.
Honestly, I felt like giving up several times.
'Let's just go buy a new one'
The words were on the tip of my tongue many times.
Even so, my daughter said, 'I like this bag,'
and I wanted to respond to her feelings.
That's why I didn't give up.
And then,
Plan 5: Use suspender clips to grip the main body and thread a new drawstring through them
This way, I don't even need to sew!
The result was... a huge success!
After piling up numerous failures,
I finally succeeded in attaching the drawstring ^^
I put stickers over the torn parts,
and my daughter's bag
was reborn as
an original remade item!
My daughter's eyes sparkled
as she said, 'Thank you!'
She was overjoyed, saying,
'I want to go to the pool soon!'
Countless failures are the reality of the path to success
What I mean to say is,
behind success,
there are
countless failuresjust like this.
Form a hypothesis and try it out.
It doesn't go well.
Make adjustments and try again.
Then, you find a different problem.
Adjust again, and take on the challenge further.
This repetition.
That is the realistic picture
of the 'path to success'.
If you, who are reading
this article right now,
are trying to take on a side hustle,
or if you have already started
and are stumbling—
You wrote a note, but no one read it.
You posted on social media, but your followers didn't increase.
You released a product, but it didn't sell at all.
That is all 'normal'.
Things going well
from the start
is truly rare.
People who are successful are,
in fact, people who have
overcome those 'things that didn't go well'
again and againover and over.
Even if things look
smooth on the surface,
behind the scenes, they failed dozens or hundreds of times
and made adjustments each time.
People who are doing well
have 'failed many times more' than
those who are not.
Failure = Proof that you are getting closer to success
If you are feeling
'maybe this is impossible...' right now,
that failure is
proof that you are getting closer to success.
For every failure,
the probability of success next time increases.
And you will stop
repeating the same mistakes.
That becomes experience,
becomes confidence,
and becomes a story you can tell someone.
The stumbling you feel right now
is an important piece
to make your future self stronger.
My daughter's pool bag
was reborn as
a one-of-a-kind 'upgraded version' in the world.
Side hustles are the same.
If you keep updating
while repeating failures,
the 'one and only' value that only you can create
will surely take shape.
Please don't give up.
The next step will
take you
further.
